reminds me of a B science fiction movie I saw - very homemade looking by the way. A bunch of aliens are stranded on earth and disguised as humans, trying to get a space ship so they can get off earth. The leader says "what do we want to do?" and the drones say "go home!" The leader says "when do we want to do that?" and the drones say "real soon."
I now know what is wrong with the Watchtower Society!!

I am sending this at this late hour, from our Kindom Hall Library Computer while all the others are asleep. As soon a the WT paragraph was read about the end being "immediate" four of the elders jumped up and super-glued all the exit doors and windows so no one could "get in" he said, but no one can get out either. we have water and some ho-ho's left over from the pioneer party, but man do I want some pizza. I have the first watch and I am pretty sure I may have seen some angels whacking some kids riding their bikes in the hall parking lot. If I don't post anymore, I hope I see you in paradise. I'm going to the bathroom for a smoke now.

Actually, I think this is a great post and thread. I am comenting on it so I will have it under my name in posts so I can find it again. My dad/elder and wt conductor for 30 years called me once when he saw the phrase "very, very near" referring to the end. Of course prior to that was only "very near" and the bible just says "near". now it is immediate!! If you google the WT cd for "very very" only one WT hit comes up.

Great observation. They love wordsmithing things; accuracy is not their strong point.
One night, the PO said, "You know in the past, we've said that armageddon was around the corner. Now it's around the corner, and staring us directly in the face!" with a nervous laugh.
I wanna catch this guy when he's 60 and go, "Staring us right in the face, huh? I'd say no retirement money is what's staring YOU in the face!"

It's just another unfufilled prophesy from the watchtower
No, no! It's just some of the imperfect men that are acting hasty and a bit too enthusiastic. You just need to wait for Jehovah... but it will sure be soon! kifoy

Thanks for starting this thread. I have been reading correspondence written by my family members way back to the 20's, and it is very evident they were influenced by words used at that time, probably the same ones used today. Looking back on all the time I spent involved with the JW's, I now find it so puzzling that I never paid any attention to the words being used. I sure do now.

I immediately became ill when reading the WT paragraphs.

This reminds me of what happens the other day when a JW friend said something like "Jehovah's new system of things are coming very soon now", and then I asked "would you be able to say with a 5 year margin of error when it will come?".
He said "no".
I said "how about a 10 year margin of error?".
He said "no".
"How about 20 year margin of error?".
He said "No, because we'd be going against Christ's words that nobody knows the day or hour".
Then I said: "How then do you know it is very soon now?".
Then we started talking about computers.
