how can the French be so darned idle and yet productive?
Can I venture an answer ? French companies lay off workers well before retirement age, say between 55 and 60, or they induce them to accept golden handshakes so that they will leave voluntarily.Those workers are those who were getting the highest wages. Once they are gone, younger fresh workers remain, who earn less and work harder. Thence the high productivity of those.
Any car I've ever had if its anything more complicated than a flat tire, No one has been able to fix it the first time.
So a lot of things I fix myself then I know if I put all the screws back and tightend them or not.
I am not aware of any Eurpean goods that have a reputation for quality.
And I thought it was the Scandinavian countries that had the most socialist system of all European countries, not France. Anyway a bit of socialism is good to provide free medical care, some benefits during unemployment, child benefits and pensions in old age.
We are surprised that the USA does not have such socially beneficial policies especially for medical/dental care.
