It's interesting that there is websites for single Americans to marry a Canadian, because they cannot afford their meds. I believe marryacanadian.com is one of them. Understand that it's easy for younger, healthy people to bitch about this system, but watch your savings disappear to ZERO when the doc mentions the c word, or something equally awful. If Belinda has the money to jump the queue, then good on her! But average wage earners simply do not.

As for going into a hospital for medical help, if you, as joe average does not have insurance, just how much is it to repair say a broken arm? Most european countries, and Canada. Zip. How much in the "for profit" system there? Be honest, no bs please.

I read this story the other day and thought it was a bit of a yawner. Drive through the parking lots of the hospitals and clinics in my town and you'll see plenty of Canadian plates on the cars. What was interesting to read were the comments posted. Some are happy with the Canadian system, some think it sucks. Just like the States.

Belinda is a spoiled rich brat. She was in our conservative party and vied for the top job. When she lost, she jumped to the liberal party and tried the exact same there too. When she lost again she said she was returning to the private sector.

She's a Canadian cross between Paris Hilton and Bill Clinton in my opinion.

Ask any average American if they have health care coverage at all. Every one of us does. So it's a bit slow, but it's affordable to even the poorest, and it's really not about taxes, it's about taking care of ourselves.

Out of a population of 300 million approx 45 million do not have coverage. Of those 45 million half of them are illegal aliens. The US government spends 800 BILLION on Medicare every year alone. Not counting the numerous state and local programs, charities and Federal laws requiring hospitals to administer emergency care at no cost you would be hard pressed to find anyone who isn't covered.

The health care debate in this country is not about coverage it is about our system of government and changing it. From a Capitolist to Socialist cradle to grave entitlements. Our politicians have ceased long ago to put the concerns of the nation first and instead look for a pure power grab. Their thinking is "The more entitlments, pork etc I can deliver the more people will vote for me". I have no doubt this country will adopt some form of universal health care BUT if it's the same government that will pay $500 for a hammer then God help us...
