"Who is going to by bad T-bonds and fund the US goverment and the american way of life." 5go, hopefully, whomever does it, will be able to spell "buy."

Whom ever does by those treasury bonds, 5go. I hope they can spell "buy" better than you. Is that what you were trying to say? Please, we all have are vulgar grammar moments.

By the way what does the USA export ?

Cars, planes, motorcycles, heavy machinery, boats, chemicals, agricultural products, gold, minerals, textiles, footwear, farm equipment, RVs, candy, trucks, plastics, paints, machine tools, entertainmant, software. Hardly an exhaustive list, but it's always impressed me.

FROM THE US COMPTROLLER Learn from the fall of Rome, US warned
    By Jeremy Grant in Washington

The US government is on a “burning platform” of unsustainable policies and practices with fiscal deficits, chronic healthcare underfunding, immigration and overseas military commitments threatening a crisis if action is not taken soon, the country’s top government inspector has warned.

It's not the end of the world I am warning about it's the end of the american empire. Which I kind of hope does end, because roman legion reanactors to this day are booed in england and most of europe. I would hate for american G.I. reanactors to be booed by future generations of the world eons from now.

Is what's happening a correction or a collection?

By the way what does the USA export ? Guns and other weapons was about it last time I checked.

In my line of work (Independent IT consultant catering to manufacturing) I come across a lot of fine machinery from all over the world.

One thing I've always found interesting is that no matter where the machinery in question was built, even Germany and Japan, when you open the controller cabinets the electronics are easily 80% American made components from American companies. To a lesser degree, (Probably 60% or so) the pneumatics and hydraulics are as well. To a larger degree (Probably 99% or so) the dedicated PC controllers are American made.

Even the components made in other countries (e.g. NUM brand numeric controllers which are made in France) themselves are loaded with chips that are designed and produced by American specialty semiconductor firms.

Now if we could just get WalMart to start selling robotic pick-and-pull systems, we'd be golden ;)

Moving the goalposts? Are cars built in the US and sold overseas?

Planes : boeing is the onle non military one left and is getting it's ass kicked by airobus

Aerobus has been having monstrous problems of late. Many airlines are flooding back to Boeing due to the problems they're having with receding delivery dates for Aerobus aircraft.

    Cessna? The various kitplane manufactureres?

motorcycles : See cars only worse

Do Harleys get built in the US and sold elsewhere?

heavy machinery: See cars only worse than motorcycles,

    Caterpillar?

boats : Nope haven't made any other than combats ship sence the 70's

    A lot more here:

chemicals : With out oil forget it.

What the heck does that mean?? Does the US export chemicals or not?

agricultural products : nope out sourced for the most part

Wheat? California cherries and lemons (and don't make up any crap here - I can actually buy those from my local fruit and vege guy!)? Monterey Jack cheese? What are you blathering about??

minerals : need oil to get them

Don't move the goalposts. China and Japan are net oil importers - are they not exporters in other fields?

textiles : HA ha funny, nope again moved to china

    footwear : see texiles

John Deere has little to fear from cheap Chinese iron!

RVs, candy, trucks, plastics, paints, machine tools, entertainmant, software. all moved to china or japan other than candy.

Peterbilt, Bridgeport, DuPont? You watch a lot of Chinese TV and movies, 5go?

    gold: won't cover our debt

Irrelevant. It's still mined, refined and minted in the US, and exported.

Here's a site to show you what's being made around your country (lots of RV manufacturers, for some reason) and open for tours:

I don't think any one is predicting the "end of the world", but there are quite a few factors lining up very nicely to suggest that US society as we know it is vulnerable.

Housing: Following the CA model, developers have built further and further from work centers. A one hour commute is not uncommon. A problem has developed in that gas prices have tripled, and the expense is suddenly a factor in home selection.

Mortgages: Jimmy Carter is mentioned above. The fondest memory some of us have of him is 20% mortgage rates, and the invention of the ARM as a result.

Today: We still have the ARM, but the difference is that people are buying ARMs *when fixed rates are at 6%* and using debt to gamble on the housing market's increasing value. Did I mention that 42% of California mortgages are sub-prime or ARM? Gambling using borrowed money is a *very* bad idea.

The market is stagnant, values are decreasing, ARMs are adjusting up (and promising a record jump) and the price of gas is not going down.

Anyone who chooses to remain blind to reality needs to go back to the Dubs.
