Then stop starting at your shadow every time a politician makes a soundbite, or every time a financial market swings.
They've been doing this for a loooooong time, even before you became aware of them!

Who is going to by bad T-bonds and fund the US goverment and the american way of life. That and china can then say hey well all that junk you make over here is ours fool.
It didn't concern Jimmuh at the time...
Stephanus,
Oh, for Pete's sake! Can anyone explain to me why China would want a weak US Dollar and a strong Yuan? Why would they want to suddenly be unable to sell all their manufactured goods to the US? And especially in the lead up to the Olympics, why on Earth would they want to make it dearer to visit China???
China is doing what is best at doing. The Chinese never think in the short term politically as is the wont of Western Governments but are great planners and strategists. That is why they are, and have been, consistently underestimated by Western governments. They know they own a large part of the US in the way of dollars. They also know that they cannot sustain the growth which has been happening within China the past decade and that inevitably cheap labour will not be cheap labour for ever. They are exporting thousands of billions of dollars of cheap goods onto the Western Markets each year and are meanwhile importing the very best manufacturing equipment, infastructure and techonology that is on the market with the dollars they are earning. The threats that they have been issuing to the US is economic cage-rattling at is best, and it will work. They are teasing the US in a 'mine is bigger than yours' way, and it is rapidly reaching the point where 'theirs' is. Any of us who have traded with Chinese business people understand the modus operandi of their trading mentality and what is happening here. They know that their comments, while having no serious intent, will hit the US national pride very hard at a time when they are at their most vunerable. They are preparing for the future and would think nothing of sacrificing in the present to do so. Cheers - HS
PEC,
The world is not going to end, everything is going to be fine. I would go back to the Kingdum Hell if I wanted to hear this shite.
5go does I admit have a misplaced sense of the dramatic more often than needed. What we are discussing is not 'the end of the world' but a restructuring of international finance.
Russia, India and China, once poor men of the world now own waterfront homes and want the previous owners to work a little faster at trimming their hedges...lol

The act also gave Iran's oil to China. As I recall I pointed to the fact that invasion of Iran has literaly yanked off the table because of China. Which is a good thing to some.
Also it began the paralizing intrest rates that cost Jimmy his job

Which this might just feel like it if your not ready for it.
I'm not an expert on these matters, but I just got off the phone with someone who keeps up with these sorts of things. I sure feel better after talking to him. What's going on is not necessarily a bad thing. He explained it and although a lot of it went way over my head (because deep economics is out of my league), I just know I listened and what I was able to comprehend made me feel a whole lot of relief.

I'm ok with a weak US dollar. For the past year I've been starting up an export business. The clients are in southeast asia. As the dollar weakens, my sales have increased dramatically. Ofcourse, we don't want the dollar to collapse as some drama queens on this board are proclaiming, but a nice correction or adjustment can be good. Our products that were previously too expensive are now affordable to the rest of the world.

By the way what does the USA export ? Guns and other weapons was about it last time I checked. I think there may be a few wars in the worlds future. The US better hope so because they shipped the most of their other manufacturing capabilty to china.
