I had no internet service for the last 36 hours, and it drove me nuts.
That made me realize how addicted most of us are to the internet.

Our wi-fi at work went out for about 2 days, which was long enough for me to consider getting my own.

Around the start of the new year AT&T upgraded the local system and the then-current dialing codes were rendered invalid. After about a half-dozen calls to tech support - the last of which was directed to India - and close to a week's time spent trying to ascertain what was going on, I finally reconnected to what is definitely a better and more reliable system. What made it difficult is my having no dedicated internet phone line. But the gent in India guided me through an interminable series of steps and concluded by stating, 'I guarantee you that it will now work.' It did.
When the system is down - for whatever reason - I could just take it in my stride and do something else - but no! I simply stare at the screen, somehow imagining that such concentrated focus of will and energy should magically reactivate my dormant system.
Eventually I do come out of my trance but wander about aimlessly till I reconnect to flesh-and-blood reality.CoCo

I don't have one yet available as our subdivision while wired for cable does not presently have a provider. Am using the public library every other day but hope I can hook mine up in a few months. Phone service is local and out of sight on price!

I don't have a computer at home, so once I leave work, it's severe withdrawal!!!

Zero. We have some kind of battery operated gizmo that will keep the computer running at least an hour if the power goes out. This is based on no hurricanes last year. So we will see this upcoming season.

After Katrina it was like 2 months and I almost died. We were out of phone service during that time so I couldn't even use dial-up. We were without power for 3 weeks..... It was hell.
