Just thought I'd let you know OM - my brother called me yesterday - my niece and sister in law will be performing in a recital next week. It's at a Baptist Church! lol

They are JW's but are on their way out too! Woo Hoo!

Oh Bumble Bee, with your newly acquired Jedi Status you truly have gone to the "dark side" haven't you?

That's great news about your recital! Wish I could be there to listen in.

BTW, my family recently saw "The Secret of Happyness" and the gospel choir singing at Glide Memorial Church really appealed to my oldest daughter. Too bad a good dub can't join in. Guess she'll have to add that to her "Whatever List" Short term pain for, hopefully, long term gain.

Most of our community's major professional concerts are held in two of our largest and nicest churches. Ample seating and great acoustics. It took me a while to get past the apprehension, but I'm totally all right with it now. I held back for so long enjoying fine and uplifting classical offerings because of a ridiculous rule.

I'm late to this discussion, but have you considered asking the music teacher to change the venue because of the reasons you outlined here?

Hell no!!! I either wanted him to get to have fun playing music while inside a "house of the Devil" or have to swallow a small bitter pill of being denied this performance because of a stupid man-made rule.

    UPDATE: We're letting him play.

I gave an update on a similar thread and forgot to update this one. All I could find from WT Library was an article saying that dubs could attend a wedding in a church even if the ceremony was religious as long as the dub didn't actively participate. So my wife and I finally decided to go ahead and let him do it, but we've all agreed to keep it hush-hush from the local dubs.

This turns out to be nicer for my son and, hopefully, he'll look back on it and remember the ridiculous mental gymnastics we went through. Then again, since he's getting to perform, this whole situation may not even register on his long-term "Whatever List". (That's the, hopefully growing, list of reasons my kids don't want to be dubs.)

    Time will tell.

Another reason recitals are held in churches, is that schools districts, don't usually allow anybody to use their facilities. For insurance purposes.

In my town of 7,500 people, a church is the only available place to hold any type of concert, or meeting, other than the school. Isn't it kind, that Churches see fit to help our community, and fill this need. The JW's fill no need that I can think of.

First time I went into a church, was for my daughters first piano recital. No demons jumped into my purse, It was beautiful, and has been said, the acoustics were wonderful.

My only advice, drink alot of coffee before you go. Your child, and the kids who have taken lessons for a couple of years, are going to be the best. The others, will be very long, and very tedious to listen to. I wanted to stand up and yell, STOP,STOP!!!! I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE!!!! <-------just kidding
