We recently purchased Cuisanarts Icecream maker. ($50.00)

After a few mistakes, I am making the best icecream you have ever tasted!

30 minutes and its done....! Tonight we have Vanilla Coconut with chopped almonds. This beats out any store bought including: Ben and Jerry's, Doves, etc.

The ingrediants are fresh.... heavy cream, fresh eggs, milk, and pure vanilla. You add what you like for extras!

Wish you were here to taste!

The only kind I've ever had was vanilla made in one of those electric ones you use outside with dry ice. lol yes it HAS been a long time! But I have good memories of fighting over the ice cream on the blade.

YES!!!! I love ice cream in general, but you're right, there's no comparison with home made ice cream. Plain old vanilla is my favorite home made flavor.

I wish you could Fed Ex me some!! I'll just have to wait 'till this summer and get out my ice cream maker that's best used outside (leaks water and salt a little).

This new gadget uses no ice or salt. You have to freeze the tub in your fridge for 24 hours, Cook the icecream, cool it, and then add to the machine and run for 30 minutes.

    Soooo easy....and delicious.

If anyone wants details or recipes let me know!!!!

Fresh Coconut, Vanilla, Almond icecream on the way!

When I was a boy on my parents farm we used to make homemade ice cream on Sunday afternoons. I remember putting the ice into a burlap feed sack and crushing it up with the flat side of a small axe. You also had to sprinkle rock salt on the ice to get the ice cream to set up. My mother made the ingredients using our own milk and cream. She put some Watkins brand vanilla and lemon extract in for flavor. My older brother and I took turns cranking the handle. The best part was pulling out the dasher and licking off the fresh ice cream.

I used to make home made ice cream - my favorite (and my husband's and friends') was lemon ginger - I made a lemon custard and froze it with lemon peel and candied ginger. Darn that was good! However, I have been on a diet for a long time now, being very successful, so I guess it had better remain a memory! Enjoy your ice cream - maybe try some dark chocolate chunks and cinnamon in your vanilla ice cream?

About a month ago there was a parent day at my daughter's preschool and we made icecream.

But we did it this way:

    Plastic Bag Ice Cream

Yes, it sounds dangerous and the potential for messes seems highly likely, but you'll be surprised at the good, "clean" fun you'll enjoy when you make ice cream. This recipe is enough for one person to make a dish!

    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 4 cups crushed ice
    • 4 tablespoons salt
    • 2 quart size Zip-loc bags
    • 1 gallon size Zip-loc freezer bag
    • a hand towel or gloves to keep fingers from freezing as well!

Mix the milk, vanilla and sugar together in one of the quart size bags. Seal tightly, allowing as little air to remain in the bag as possible. Too much air left inside may force the bag open during shaking. Place this bag inside the other quart size bag, again leaving as little air inside as possible and sealing well. By double-bagging, the risk of salt and ice leaking into the ice cream is minimized. Put the two bags inside the gallon size bag and fill the bag with ice, then sprinkle salt on top. Again let all the air escape and seal the bag. Wrap the bag in the towel or put your gloves on, and shake and massage the bag, making sure the ice surrounds the cream mixture. Five to eight minutes is adequate time for the mixture to freeze into ice cream.

    Tips

Freezer bags work best because they are thicker and less likely to develop small holes, allowing the bags to leak. You can get away with using regular Zip-loc bags for the smaller quart sizes, because you are double-bagging. Especially if you plan to do this indoors, we strongly recommend using gallon size freezer bags.

Until I did this, I never had a care as to purchasing an ice cream maker. Now? I totally want one!!
