This was forwarded to me in an email re: Matt 24:14 NOT fulfilled

I must say that I am so very sorry I asked. When I got it in the
email, I just wanted to know if it was a real talk... and I've found
    out that it is.

Although SOME may believe that IF it's been "fulfilled" they take it
to mean that it's been COMPLETELY fulfilled and some may also take it
to mean that we should stop preaching. However, that is NOT at all
what the brother said in his talk.

For example, when Jerusalem saw the "disgusting" thing and the armies
encamped, was it "the end" of Jerusalem at that very moment? No, but
the beginning of the end. It was close, around the corner, and action
    was needed.

When Jesus was born and the prophecy of the Mesiah was "fulfilled" in
that he ws born, was that the end of the waiting, the expectation,
and the "good" that those waiting for him were doing? Not at all. No,
but they kept looking for him and some even thought maybe John the
Baptist was he. Did John stop baptizing after he baptized Jesus?
After all, John's work was to prepare the way for Jesus... and now
that Jesus was here and on the scene... did John's work end? Not by
any means. He kept at it and SO MUCH so that even some of Jesus'
disciples complained because BOTH were doing work in the land. Yes?

Just because Matt 24:14 may have said to be "fulfilled"... it may
mean it's just begun to be fulfilled, it's neared the end of being
fulfilled... who knows? Don't we often know just at the last moment
    or even after the fact?

So like the end of Jerusalem was "near" when they saw the encamped
armies, and like the coming of Jesus was "near" when John went
baptizing in the land... I believe that so too the end of this system
is "near" with the fulfillment of Matt 24:14 and I ALSO believe we do
NOT stop preaching as that's not at all what the brother said or
implied in his talk. He just said that we need to make SURE that we
are doing what we should, be what we should, etc as it is NEAR and
NOBODY knows the hour and it could be here instantly like a thief in
the night and when the master comes, let him find his "slave" being
faithful and DOING what we ought. Yes?

Let's not take anything out of context or squabble about trivial
matters. Let's not be like the Jews of old and make so many rules and
traditions that our faith become burdensome.

Let's please not forget the love among ourselves, let us remember to
incite to love and fine works, and let us continue to the end and run
the race with endurance. The runner does not slow when the finish
line is in sight, does he? No, but he runs even faster and with more
vigor than ever to make SURE he finishes. Let us do the same my
brothers and sisters... let's fight the fine fight to the end... hand
in hand... for we would be willing to die for each other, yes? You
for me and me for you?

A couple of months ago there was a lot of talk on here of a few assemblies where DOs and Bethel representatives were giving talks and saying that the Preaching work had been fulfilled.

This is what annoyed me about his quote, it wasn't just 'some brothers' starting rumours, it was people like him, his fellow District Overseers, and yet the average brother gets the blame again.

There is an mp3 of one of those talks floating around the 'net. It was by a Bethel Brother in the US his name was James Rayford. According to the information "out there", someone telephoned him and spoke with him and his wife. They made the same comments above, that it was backed up by the literature. (can't remeber if it was this site or not). A quick Google search turned up this link... http://www.davidgladden.com/jw/media/Matt_24-14_is_fulfilled__Speaker-James_Rayford__Jan_2007.mp3

    purplesofa,

That email reads like Fred E Hathaway. If so, I recommend a great degree of caution with your personal information.

    Zico,

I remember that article in 1995. It caused a huge stir. It started a lot of people wondering how long the end could possibly be after this good news was preached in all the inhabited earth. The speakers who said the scripture was fulfilled got their understanding from the Watchtower itself, it wasn't a baseless rumor. Like the ones who spread that 1975 would be a momentuous year in human history. They got it from a 1966 and 1968 Awake! and told other people what the magazine said.

This religion is so completely perverse that only those blinded cannot see it.

    Respectfully,
    AuldSoul

may I ask a naive question... why do you still go to the assemblies? I don't know you, but it seems to me that if you had to take off for long walks (I used to do that too) and then find things they say objectionable (so did I, every time) you shouldn't really be there? wouldn't you be doing yourself a favour by not going at all?

sorry, not being confrontational and it's none of my business - I just really don't understand ...

Yes he did Pahpa, I had to look up the word when I got home, and I found it an odd choice as well.

Thanks Alpha, that's the one I was thinking of.

Hi purplesofa, This person would do well to heed their own words eh?

This religion is so completely perverse that only those blinded cannot see it.

Hi Auldsoul, It's amazing what you can see when you're out eh? (At least mentally out!) Also, thanks Nevada for the scan!

    thanks for pm, Zico

and I so understand the going for a walk during the assembly - the times I had to do that! or sit there rigid with amazement while someone said yet another contradictory thing...
