I take it to mean that young people have a different sense of time and history than the generations before them.
I sometimes talk about the Vietnam War as if it happened yesterday because I lived during it. To many HS students today it was "a million years ago" because they don't see it as impacting on them personally.
Ishmael and Isaac happened "millions of years ago" because most humans do not see it as impacting on them personally.
