Also the Harrison Ford film "Witness", no pun intended. It shows what happens when circumstances beyond an Amish boy's control change his life forever... and he cannot continue in the Amish ways unchanged.

"Hannibal Rising," just to scare the squirt out of 'em!
Nathan Natas - have you seen this yet? I haven't and was going to as I am a huge hannibal fan, but read some awful reviews.
Some really good suggestions here already but haven;t seen BRAZIL here so would add that to the list. But The Village is another excellent choice.

1984 was a movie? I read the book and it did a lot for me! Who was in it? For some reason, when I was a young girl, Logans Run really struck a chord with me. . .As did the Handmaids tale when I was older.

That was an awesome book! I just read 1984 recently and am now reading "The Orwellian World of Jehovah's Witnesses". It's an interesting trip thru the beliefs I've left behind and the history of the org. with excellent tie in's to 1984.
