What rebellious things did you secretly do while still in?

Onacruse and Mouthy said something very interesting in becca's thread and it got me thinking....

Did you intentionally do certain things, either to assert yourself, even though privately/secretly, or just because you strongly felt it was the right thing to do? Things that were not in keeping with the Organization's teachings? Things that if known, could get you in hot water in the congregation?

I only did little things, but they were intentional, to "get away with it", such as singing Christmas songs, buying birthday cards "for the art", specifically selecting paper towels with holiday prints, which if questioned, I would simply have said I hadn't noticed.

Many contrary thoughts went through my mind while listening to the annoying drivel at the meetings over and over, but I didn't have differing religious beliefs at the time, other than to disagree that Jehovah's Witnesses were necessarily the "honest hearted ones" as opposed to many nonwitnesses who were obviously far better people.

I probably should refrain from posting on this thread but here I am.

I was one of those majorly naive duped JW's. Anything I did that was "wrong" was an honest human slip-up, for which I turned myself in. I was such a sucker.

I didn't even watch rated R movies! I felt guilty if I was over at my sister's house and we watched one.

I struggle with whether or not to even call these things "rebellion", since I firmly believed I was right and that the majority had it wrong, and the rest just needed to get with the facts.

I grew a beard, bowed to pressure to shave it, but left a soul patch (which, oddly, was always complimented. If you think about it, a soul patch is far less "accepted" by the world in general than a goatee, it just shows how pharisee-like they are about details). After a year or so, I grew a goatee again, and kept it for the last 4 years I was a witness.

I went to R rated movies, and thought it was insane that witnesses let a worldly rating board be where they draw their line. It shows a complete lack of personal conscience.

At the very end of my witness days, I was planning to begin going in service dressed in business casual, as I thought the way we dressed for service was in exact opposition to the admonishment to be "all things to all people" and to make householders comfortable with our presence. Never got around to that one though.

Yeah, I guess it was a type of rebellion.

Long time ago now but what the hell,...

Listened to "satanic" music, went to R movies, had "bad" associations, drank, smoked (everything), dropped (stuff), partied constantly, chased girls, all the things a teenager does to rebel.

'course, i was on my way out at the time; one of the lives had to go,......lol

    ahhh, good times,....:-)

I drank underage, swore and bought lottery tickets. If I were a guy, I would've been promoted to being an elder.

I was sort of nerdy. I had a good heart but got drunk, went to clubs, hung out with worldly people, believed in evolution, went swimming in my bra and panties in front of the opposite sex in public (got a "marking" talk for that one 8-O ), said bad words... that's it.

Those dubbers sure do like to "strain out the gnat" etc.

The elder who gave the marking talk is disfellowshipped and hangs out at casinos and smokes now. When he was giving the talk he did it almost with glee. >:P

He was like, 20 years older than us but would try to date my friends. Sooo nasty. He probably got off giving that talk... BARF!

hmmm, I just re-read the initial post-

I actually didn't do those things with the *purpose* of rebelling, they were just things I wanted to do...

Purposefully rebelling... I don't think that I did, because I always believed it was the truth and wanted to be approved by Jehovah... UUUUGHGHGHH, my, phrases like that make me shudder now!

smoking, drinking, porn, masturbating, parties, street racing, egg and TP homes on halloween, vandalism of a church's Cross sign(we made it into a stake)

There's much more that was done, though I choose to just highlight my bad years.

This was during my teen years, approx 14 - 17 yrs old. Thankgoodness I didn't get caught and that I finally grew up!
