"THE GREAT DAY OF JEHOVAH IS NEAR" "The great day of Jehovah is near. It is near, and there is a hurrying of it very much."-ZEPHANIAH 1:14.

    Opening Comments

This is the article on the year’s text for 2007. Following shortly after the tract “False Religion’s End is Near” it has stirred the expectations of many JWs that the promised end of all non-JWs is near. Even I have received a frantic warning that I should get back to the KH before it is too late. As if safety is found in a building. If JWs truly listened to the bible they would know.

Once again an OT scriputre is used. Was Zephaniah talking about Armageddon or the great tribulation?

    *** it-2 pp. 1230-1231 Zephaniah, Book of ***

    Another outstanding evidence of the book’s canonicity is the fulfillment of prophecy. The foretold destruction came upon the Assyrian capital Nineveh in 632 B.C.E. (Zep 2:13-15) and upon Judah and Jerusalem in 607 B.C.E. (Zep 1:4-18;

    *** it-1 p. 595 Day of Jehovah ***

By the mouth of his prophet Zephaniah, Jehovah foretold how he was about to stretch out his hand against Judah and Jerusalem, giving special attention so that not even the princes or the sons of the king would escape. (Zep 1:4-8) As the facts show, that “day of Jehovah” came upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem in 607 B.C.E.

    START OF ARTICLE

Q1, 2) (a) What special day do Christians await? (b) What questions do we need to ask, and why?

    1) A radiant young woman eagerly awaits the arrival of her wedding day. An expectant mother lovingly looks forward to the birth of her baby. An exhausted worker deeply desires the start of his long-awaited vacation. What do they have in common? They all wait for a special day--a day that will have an impact on their lives. Their emotions run deep and yet are very different. The day they await will eventually arrive, and when it does, they hope to be ready for it.

    Christians awaitonly JWs

Her wedding dayan exact date that the woman, the groom, and their friends and familes know

An exhausted worker...vacationan exact date that he knows, his boss knows, and his co-workers know

They know when the day will arrive

    2) True Christians today likewise eagerly await the arrival of a special day. It is the great "day of Jehovah." (Isaiah 13:9; Joel 2:1; 2 Peter 3:12) What is this coming "day of Jehovah," and how will its arrival affect mankind? Moreover, how can we make sure that we are ready for its arrival? It is imperative that we seek the answers to these questions now because evidence indicates the truthfulness of the following words of the Bible: "The great day of Jehovah is near. It is near, and there is a hurrying of it very much."-Zephaniah 1:14.

    True Christians—only JWs

    Evidence indicates—what evidence?

Near? It is not enough that JWs will be resurrected from death but the WTS promises that they will never die at all.

    *** w05 4/15 p. 5 Taking in Knowledge—Now and Forever ***

” All evidence shows that this “day” is very near, which means that you may “never die at all.”—John 11:25-27.

Notice that over a year ago, the WTS was banging the “near” drum.

    *** w05 9/15 p. 19 par. 14 Walk by Faith, Not by Sight! ***

The desolation of false religion will mark the beginning of the great tribulation. In the final part of the great tribulation, the remaining elements of this wicked system of things will be destroyed. (Matthew 24:29, 30; Revelation 16:14, 16) Walking by faith keeps us alert to the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. We are not duped into thinking that any man-made agency like the United Nations is God’s means of bringing true peace and security. So, then, should not our way of life demonstrate our conviction that “the great day of Jehovah is near”?—Zephaniah 1:14. (see paragraph 5 for a repeat of this 2005 admonition)

    "The Great Day of Jehovah"

Q3) What is "the great day of Jehovah"?

    3) What is "the great day of Jehovah"? Throughout the Scriptures, the expression "the day of Jehovah" refers to special times when Jehovah executed judgment on his enemies and glorified his great name. The unfaithful people of Judah and Jerusalem as well as the oppressive inhabitants of Babylon and Egypt all faced `days of Jehovah' when they experienced the execution of Jehovah's judgments. (Isaiah 2:1, 10-12; 13: 1-6; Jeremiah 46:7-10) However, the greatest "day of Jehovah" still lies ahead. It is the "day" when Jehovah's judgment will be executed on those who have defamed his name. It will start with the destruction of "Babylon the Great," the world empire of false religion, and culminate in the annihilation of the rest of the wicked system of things at the war of Armageddon.-Revelation 16:14, 16; 17:5,15-17; 19:11-21.

    Greatest day “still lies ahead”?

1914—the end of the time of the end which began in 1799

1915—adjusted when the destruction of governments did not occur

1920—adjusted when it did not happen in 1915

1925—adjusted when it did not happen in 1920

1940’s—prompted by the concept that WW2 would culminate in Armageddon

1975—the beginning of the 1,000 year reign of Christ?

1984—70 years of the generation that was born in 1914

1994—80 years of the generation that was born in 1914

1995—1914 generation is done away with

2007—the new year for the end of the time of the end?

    Who destroys “Babylon the Great”?

    *** w05 9/15 p. 19 par. 13 Walk by Faith, Not by Sight! ***

Likewise today, Bible prophecy indicates that militarized powers within the United Nations will see religion as a disturbing element and will act to destroy modern-day Jerusalem—Christendom—as well as the rest of Babylon the Great. (Revelation 17:12-17) Yes, the entire world empire of false religion stands on the brink of destruction.

Annihilation of the rest of the wicked system of things—the eternal death of all non-JWs, 6 billion plus, including children and babies.

Q4) Why should most of mankind dread the fastapproaching day of Jehovah?

    4) Whether they realize it or not, most of mankind should dread this fast-approaching day. Why? Through the prophet Zephaniah, Jehovah answers: "That day is a day of fury, a day of distress and of anguish, a day of storm and of desolation, a day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick gloom." Fearsome indeed! Moreover, the prophet says: "I will cause distress to mankind ... because it is against Jehovah that they have sinned."-Zephaniah 1:15,17.

Most of mankind should dread this fast approaching day—Notice that the WTS condemns the vast majority of humans to eternal death.

    *** w05 7/1 p. 7 “Happy Are Those Conscious of Their Spiritual Need” ***

“This good news of the kingdom,” he foretold, “will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14) That end is fast approaching.

    *** w04 8/1 p. 5 God’s Kingdom Government—A Reality Today ***

The time when humans will mass together to fight against God’s sovereignty is fast approaching.

That was fast approaching in 1950, 57 years ago.

    *** w50 3/1 p. 73 par. 15 Uniting Our Praises Universally ***

What was true in the days of the apostles is more true at this time as we see the day of Armageddon’s trouble fast approaching.

Q5) What positive viewpoint do millions have regarding Jehovah's day, and why?

    5) Millions of others, however, eagerly anticipate the arrival of Jehovah's day. Why? They know that it is a time of salvation and deliverance for the righteous, a day in which Jehovah himself is highly exalted and his glorious name sanctified. (Joel 3:16, 17; Zephaniah 3:12-17) Whether that day is dreaded or eagerly anticipated depends largely on what people are doing with their lives now. How do you view the approach of that day? Are you ready for it? Does the fact that Jehovah's day is on the horizon affect your day-to-day life right now?

Millions of othersonly 6.5 million JWs, all non-JWs are doomed to destruction; only JWs are righteous.

    *** w89 9/1 p. 19 par. 7 Remaining Organized for Survival Into the Millennium ***

Only Jehovah’s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the “great crowd,” as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil. (Revelation 7:9-17; 2 Corinthians 4:4) They will make up the “flesh” that Jesus Christ said would be saved through the worst tribulation of all human history.

"There Will Come Ridiculers With Their Ridicule"

Q6) How do most people view the "day of Jehovah," and why are true Christians not surprised by this?

    6) Despite the urgency of the situation, most of earth's inhabitants are not concerned about the approaching "day of Jehovah." They mock and ridicule those who warn them of its imminent arrival. True Christians are not surprised by this. They remember the warning recorded by the apostle Peter: "You know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires and saying: 'Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as from creation's beginning."'-2 Peter 3:3, 4.

Have JWs done a good job in warning people? When questioned what do non-JWs believe is the message of JWs? Do JWs mention “Jehovah” or are they reluctant to identify themselves? Do they talk about the “kingdom” or do they talk about a paradise on earth not mentioning that all but 6.5 million JWs will survive?

Q7) What will help us to maintain a sense of urgency?

    7) What will help us to resist such negative thinking and thereby maintain a sense of urgency? Peter tells us: "I am arousing your clear thinking faculties by way of a reminder, that you should remember the sayings previously spoken by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles." (2 Peter 3:1, 2) Our paying attention to prophetic warnings will help us to `arouse our clear thinking faculties.' Perhaps we have heard these reminders repeatedly, but it is vital that we now, more thanever, continue to pay attention to these warnings.-Isaiah 34:1-4; Luke 21:34-36.

Negative thinking...maintain a sense of urgency—Are JWs losing their sense of urgency because of what non-JWs say or because of the many false dates set by the WTS? (see above)

Our paying attention to prophetic warnings—What was said about 1925?

Perhaps we have heard these reminders repeatedly—is it a reminder if the date keeps changing from 1914 to 1915 to 1920 to 1925 to 1975...to 2007?

    http://www.bibletopics.com/biblestudy/88a.htm

Q8) Why do many ignore Bible reminders?

    8) Why do some ignore these reminders? Peter continues: 'According to their wish, this fact escapes their notice, that there were heavens from of old and an earth standing compactly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; and by those means the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water." (2 Peter 3:5, 6) Yes, there are those who do not wish for Jehovah's day to arrive. They do not want their lives to be disrupted. They do not want to be held accountable to Jehovah for their selfish lifestyle! As Peter states, they live "according to their own desires."

Those who do not wish for Jehovah’s day to arrive—do many JWs want that day to arrive? Do they want organized sports to end? No more Super Bowl. “They do not want their lives to be disrupted.” What if some sisters find that their favorite makeup is no longer available; or they have to cook on wood stoves, or the toilets don’t flush?

Q9) What attitude was displayed by people in the days of Noah and of Lot?

    9) Because of "their wish," these ridiculers prefer to ignore that Jehovah has intervened in mankind's affairs in the past. Both Jesus Christ and the apostle Peter refer to two such events-"the days of Noah" and "the days of Lot." (Luke 17:26-30; 2 Peter 2:5-9) Before the Flood, people took no note of the warning Noah gave. Likewise, prior to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, in the eyes of his sons-in-law, Lot "seemed like a man who was joking."-Genesis 19:14.

Prefer to ignore that God has intervened—Did Noah preach to all the people of his day; when did Lot get any preaching time in between the time the angels came and dragged them out of the city (according to the account)?

And now the WTS teaches that not every individual will get a personal “witness” or even needs one.

    *** w00 1/15 p. 13 par. 17 “Keep on the Watch” ***

Fifth, we see a global preaching work being accomplished, which Jesus said would take place just before the end of this system. Jesus stated: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14) Today, that prophecy is in the course of fulfillment on an unprecedented scale. True, untouched territories still exist, and it may be that in Jehovah’s due time, a large door leading to greater activity will open. (1 Corinthians 16:9) Nevertheless, the Bible does not state that Jehovah will wait until every individual on earth has received a personal witness. Rather, the good news must be preached to Jehovah’s satisfaction. Then the end will come.—Compare Matthew 10:23.

Q10) What is Jehovah's reaction to those who take no note?

    10) It is no different today. Yet, note Jehovah's reaction to those who take no note: "I will give attention to the men who are congealing upon their dregs and who are saying in their heart, `Jehovah will not do good, and he will not do bad.' And their wealth must come to be for pillage and their houses for a desolate waste. And they will build houses, but they will not have occupancy; and they will plant vineyards, but they will not drink the wine of them." (Zephaniah 1: 12, 13) People may continue to go about their "normal" daily activities, but they will not gain any permanent benefit from their hard work. Why? Because Jehovah's day will arrive suddenly, and any material riches they may have accumulated will not save them.-Zephaniah 1:18.

According to the WTS, who was Zephaniah prophesying about, Israelites, and that it was already fulfilled in 607 B.C.E.

Based on the urgency the WTS paints in this paragraph, why aren’t all JWs sellling their possessions and preaching full-time and moving to countries where there are few if any JWs?

What does it mean to “take no note”? Materialism raises its ugly head. Does it mean that a person must be a baptized JW? What does the WTS say is the equivalent today of getting on the ark? What is the ark according to the WTS?

    *** w83 2/15 p. 12 You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth—But How? ***

A third requirement is that we be associated with God’s channel, his organization. God has always used an organization. For example, only those in the ark in Noah’s day survived the Flood, and only those associated with the Christian congregation in the first century had God’s favor. (Acts 4:12) Similarly, Jehovah is using only one organization today to accomplish his will. To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it.

[Picture on page 17] As in Noah's day, ridiculers will be taken by surprise when Jehovah acts

    "Keep in Expectation of It"

Q11) What admonition should we keep in mind?

    11) Unlike the wicked world around us, we must keep in mind the admonition recorded by the prophet Habakkuk: "The vision is yet for the appointed time, and it keeps panting on to the end, and it will not tell a lie. Even if it should delay, keep in expectation of it; for it will without fail come true. It will not be late." (Habakkuk 2:3) Even if that day may appear to delay from our imperfect viewpoint, we must remember that Jehovah is not slow. His day will come exactly on time, at an hour that humans do not expect. -Mark 13:33; 2 Peter 3:9, 10.

    Another OT example—Habakkuk

It will not tell a lie—but the WTS will and has

Even if it should delay—because the WTS predicted the wrong year (1914, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1975...)

It may appear to delay from our imperfect viewpoint—from the WTS imperfect viewpoint

At an hour that humans do not expect—they must be humans other than the FDS which has predicted many expected hours.

1922 "The indisputable facts, therefore, show that the "time of the end" began in 1799; that the Lord's second presence began in 1874." (The Watchtower, March 1, 1922)

Q12) Of what did Jesus warn, and how does this contrast with the actions of Jesus' faithful followers?

    12) Emphasizing the importance of keeping in expectation of Jehovah's day, Jesus warned that even some of his followers would lose their sense of urgency. He foretold about them: "If ever that evil slave should say in his heart, `My master is delaying,' and should start to beat his fellow slaves and should eat and drink with the confirmed drunkards, the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, and will punish him with the greatest severity." (Matthew 24:48-51) In contrast, the faithful and discreet slave class loyally keeps its sense of urgency. The slave class has kept on the watch and proved itself ready. Jesus has appointed it "over all his belongings" here on the earth.-Matthew 24:42-47.

Even some of his followers would lose their sense of urgency—whereas some would continually be changing the date of urgency (1914, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1975...)

Where is the proof that Jesus has appointed the WTS over its belongings? The WTS says they were appointed in 1919 because they were free of “pagan” teachings yet they admit that they were celebrating birthdays, holidays, using the cross in worship (even on the cover of the WTS until 1931), using the pyramid in its chronology, teaching that the great crowd was a heavenly class, etc.

    *** w97 5/15 p. 15 par. 1 Theocratic Administration in the Christian Era ***

But as “the time of the end” approached, the true Israel of God came back into human view and in 1919 was appointed over all Jesus’ belongings.—Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43; 24:45-47; Daniel 12:4.

    The Need for Urgency

Q13) How did Jesus highlight the need for a sense of urgency?

    13) It was imperative that first-century Christians keep their sense of urgency. They needed to take immediate action to flee Jerusalem when they saw that city "surrounded by encamped armies." (Luke 21:20, 21) That happened in the year 66 C.E. Notice how Jesus highlighted the need for urgency on the part of Christians back then: "Let the man on the housetop not come down to take the goods out of his house; and let the man in the field not return to the house to pick up his outer garment." (Matthew 24: 17, 18) In view of the fact that history shows that Jerusalem survived for four more years, why did Christians need to heed Jesus' words so urgently in 66 C.E.?

Needed to take immediate action...left in 66 C.E....Jerusalem destroyed 4 years later.

Is there a correlation to today of a literal 4 year gap? What does leaving Jerusalem mean to JWs today?

[Picture on page 18] Christians had to act without delay when they saw Jerusalem "surrounded by encamped armies"

Q14, 15) Why was it imperative for first-century Christians to act without delay on seeing Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies?

    14) While it is true that the Roman army did not destroy Jerusalem until 70 C.E., the intervening years were not trouble free. Far from it! Those years were filled with violence and bloodshed. One historian describes the situation in Jerusalem during that time as "a fearfully bloody civil war, accompanied by acts of horrid cruelty." Young men were recruited to strengthen the fortifications, to take up weapons, and to serve in the military. They underwent daily military exercises. Those who were not in favor of extreme measures were viewed as traitors. If Christians had lingered in the city, they would have found themselves in an extremely dangerous position.-Matthew 26: 52; Mark 12:17.

Were Christians outside the control and interest of Romans just by being outside the city? Weren’t Jews hunted down and killed or captured in other areas? Should JWs today think there is any literal place they can go to escape the attention of governments?

One historian—who? Credentials? Why left out?

(perhaps Emil Schurer, History of the Jewish People)

    15) It should be noted that Jesus said that "those in Judea," not just Jerusalem, were to start fleeing. This was important because within a few months of their withdrawal from Jerusalem, the Roman troops once again renewed their war operations. First, Galilee was subdued in 67 C.E., and then Judaea was systematically conquered the following year. This resulted in great misery throughout the countryside. It also became increasingly difficult for any Jew to escape from Jerusalem itself. The city gates were guarded, and any trying to escape were assumed to be deserting to the Romans.

So what literal place are Christians today (only JWs really) suppose to flee from?

Q16) What attitude did first-century Christians need to have in order to survive that time of distress?

    16) With all these factors in mind, we can understand why Jesus emphasized the urgency of the situation. Christians had to be willing to make sacrifices, not allowing themselves to become sidetracked by material possessions. They had to be willing to "say good-bye to all [their] belongings" in order to obey Jesus' warning. (Luke 14:33) Those who promptly obeyed and fled to the other side of the Jordan were saved.

Had to be willing to make sacrifices...sidetracked by material possessions

Yes, you would be better off giving all your money (say good-bye) to the WTS and “promptly” too. Then you will be saved.

    Maintaining Our Sense of Urgency

Q17) Why should we strengthen our sense of urgency?

    17) Bible prophecies clearly reveal that we are living deep in the time of the end. As never before, we need to strengthen our sense of urgency. A soldier in peacetime does not feel the tension and danger of battle. Still, if as a result, he feels no urgency to stay alert and is suddenly called into action, he may well be unprepared, with fatal consequences. The same is true spiritually. If we allow our sense of urgency to fade, we may be unprepared to fend off attacks that come our way and may be caught unawares when Jehovah's day finally arrives. (Luke 21:36; 1 Thessalonians 5:4) If any have `drawn back from following Jehovah,' now is the time for them to seek him again.-Zephaniah 1:3-6; 2 Thessalonians 1:8, 9.

Bible prophecies clearly reveal that we are living deep in the time of the end

Unless you were studying the Harp of God book where the WTS taught that the time of the end ended in 1914.

So are JWs going to be soldiers when the end comes; will they be fighting and killing the non-JWs (including the babies)?

So what attacks are the JWs need to fend off. If they are caught unawares, it will because of all the wrong dates the WTS has said are indisputable facts from the Bible (1914, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1975...2007?)

Is drawing away from the lies of the WTS the same as drawing away from God?

[Box on page 19] The yeartext for 2007 will be: "The great day of Jehovah is near."-Zephaniah 1:14.

Q18, 19) What will help us to keep close in mind "the presence of the day of Jehovah"?

    18) No wonder the apostle Peter admonishes us to keep close in mind "the presence of the day of Jehovah" ! How can we do this? One way is by being involved "in holy acts of conduct and deeds of godly devotion." (2 Peter 3:11, 12) Keeping busy in such activities will help us to anticipate eagerly the arrival of "the day of Jehovah." The Greek word translated "keeping close in mind" literally means "speeding up." We cannot actually speed up the time that remains until the arrival of Jehovah's day. Yet, as we wait for that day, the time will seem to pass much more quickly if we are busy in God's service. -1 Corinthians 15:58.

The WTS is a works-based organization nor faith---acts...deeds

Going to 5 hours of WTS indoctrination each week, spending 10 hours monthly “placing” WTS publications.

The time will seem to pass much more quickly if we are busy in God’s service—TRANSLATION: JWs are spending less time at meetings and pushing WTS publications because the end is not coming quickly (WTS has been setting dates for 128 years since 1879).

    19) Meditating on God's Word and contemplating the reminders found therein will likewise enable us to do this-"earnestly long for (expect and hasten) the coming" of that day, yes, to be in "constant expectation" of it. (2 Peter 3:12, The Amplified Bible; The New Testament, by William Barclay) Included in these reminders are the numerous prophecies that foretell not only the arrival of Jehovah's day but also the bounteous blessings that will be bestowed upon those who `keep in expectation of Jehovah.' -Zephaniah 3:8.

Meditating on God’s Word—which cannot be understood apart from the WTS

Have you ever tried bringing a Bible other than the NWT to a meeting? Since the WTS quotes from another translation, why not try it and see what happens?

    Numerous prophecies that foretell—did they foretell 1914, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1975...2007?

    Bounteous blessings—only for JWs.

Q20) What exhortation should we take to heart?

    20) Now is truly the time for all of us to take to heart the exhortation given through the prophet Zephaniah: "Before there comes upon you people the burning anger of Jehovah, before there comes upon you the day of Jehovah's anger, seek Jehovah, all you meek ones of the earth, who have practiced His own judicial decision. Seek righteousness, seek meekness. Probably you may be concealed in the day of Jehovah's anger." -Zephaniah 2:2, 3.

Probably---even after doing all the things the WTS says you must do to be saved, you still might not make it.

Does the WTS answer the question asked here?

    *** w05 8/1 p. 31 Questions From Readers ***

Does the word “probably” at Zephaniah 2:3 mean that servants of God cannot be sure of receiving eternal life?

It seems, then, that “probably” is not used at Zephaniah 2:3 because of any uncertainty about God’s ability to preserve those who have his approval. Rather, a person’s being concealed in the day of Jehovah’s anger is only a probability when he begins to seek righteousness and meekness. Preservation will depend on an individual’s continuing to seek meekness and righteousness.—Zephaniah 2:3.

Q21) What will be the determination of God's people during 2007?

    21) How appropriate, then, is the yeartext that has been selected for the 2007 calendar year: "The great day of Jehovah is near." God's people are convinced that "it is near, and there is a hurrying of it very much." (Zephaniah 1:14) "It will not be late." (Habakkuk 2:3) So as we await that day, may we be ever alert to the times in which we live, realizing that the final fulfillment of these prophecies is near at hand!

It will not be late? 1914, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1975...how late is it?

Near at hand....Those in the WTS have only been waiting 128 years...Noah only waited 120.

    Can You Answer?

    - What is "the great day of Jehovah"?

    - Why do many ignore the urgency of the times?

    - Why did Christians in the first century need to act with a sense of urgency?

    - How can we heighten our sense of urgency?

    Concluding Comments

Two more articles to go…bring your buckets. I don’t find anything new here….actually there was a similar article about 18 months ago. Flog those sheep. Those of us who were adults from 1966 to 1975 remember the urgency, people selling up and moving, congregations had 10 to 15 regular pioneers. Why not now? Why can’t the WTS generate the same urgency? Is it the undercutting of the 1914 generation in 1995? Is it the fact that those living in that 1966 to 1975 period are in their 80’s and dying off without seeing that promise that JWs living then would never die? Why do so many JWs think the end is coming in 2007? Why did the statements by 2 representatives of the WTS that Matthew 24:14 has been fulfilled and so the end can come, flew around the world on the wings of emails? What does the WTS have prepared for the summer conventions? Will it be like the summer of 1975 with people eagerly anticipating the destruction of 6.5 billion people in the autumn of 2007?

We are still on the road. We will be finding snow tomorrow but not ice. May the weather find you safe and warm.

    Love, Blondie

Dear Students of The Reformed Watchtower,

I'm attempting to relocate CTR's comments on maintaining a positive outlook re: failed predictions. He stated that, rather than allow failures to adversely affect our outlook, these should have a "stimulating and sanctifying" effect upon Christians. Am continuing to research the source.

The author acknowledges that in this book he presents the thought that the Lord's saints might expect to be with Him in glory at the ending of the Gentile Times. This was a natural mistake to fall into, but the Lord overruled it for the blessing of His people. The thought that the Church would all be gathered to glory before October, 1914, certainly did have a very stimulating and sanctifying effect upon thousands, all of whom accordingly can praise the Lord--even for the mistake. Many, indeed, can express themselves as being thankful to the Lord that the culmination of the Church's hopes was not reached at the time we expected; and that we, as the Lord's people, have further

"The great day of Jehovah is near. It is near, and there is a hurrying of it very much."-ZEPHANIAH 1:14.

Why does Zephaniah's scripture sound so much like Yoda from Star Wars? Perhaps Yoda is the Greater Zephaniah. Except Yoda would probably say, "Near the great day of Jehovah is, hurrying of it very much there will be."
