Just watched it about an hour ago. I know that it's old news that he got involved with the organization while his career was basically in a free fall, but now that he is enjoying some success again, I am very surprised that he is still claiming to even be a JW.

What is more surprising is that he is accepted as a JW in good standing unless I'm wrong.

I don't think there is any wrong in the WTS thinking regarding accepting a music award...a sports award might be iffy, but not forbidden. The WTS has accepted awards for the videos it has produced and even advertises that on their media site.

I just wonder how he was dressed, what his hair was like, and what kind of jewelry he wore. Did he bring an escort? If so, was she a JW?

Seems like a Double Standard to me.

If memory serves me correctly one of the reasons publishers are not to celebrate birthdays is because it brings honor to the person.

How are music and video awards not honoring the person?

Remember Charles Sunutko? Maybe too long ago for many. He was a very prominent C.O. whose life was recently hightlighted in the Awake magazine. In the 1960s he was supposedly sought after as a singer but left the lifestyle to become a witness. Many articles in the awake magazines over the years have highlighted ones who could have had a lucrative career as a singer/musician/actor/sports figure, etc. but gave it up because it would cause them to come into association with "worldly people" and would take up too much of their valuable spiritual time.

Guess the standards for some at least are changed. Hypocrites!

I know back in the 80's prince's music was a no-no (of course I listned) what I find interesting is at his concerts hes basically playing the same songs. He cut out the real racy ones like sexy mf, but he still plays the ones co's and elder's were railing against back in the 80's. I guess he never heard that lil red corvet played backwards says satan is my daddy.
