    Very, very little ancient Roman administrative documents (which were not generally copied) have survived. Even a small fraction of Greco-Roman literature (which was generally copied) has survived to the present day.

    Quirinius' census was in 6 AD. That is, about ten years after Herod's death. Which makes Luke's synchronism (1:5; 2:1) impossible.
