He certainly would have had to use the great bear star to navigate. Those pre-Isrealite nautical charts drawn on dried yak skins were notoriously inaccurate.

I didnt think the ark was navagable, I thought it just floated, wouldnt you need a sail or a rudder to navigate. Where was he navagating too. Since the bible is great about leaving out the details the answer to your question could be yes, or no.

Also was their a Noah? Why did a lovinig God kill all the people. How could they have gotten so bad? Is god a spaceman?

A ship or boat which has no rudder, and no motor or sail to provide power is in serious trouble in bad weather. Waves tend to turn "long" objects so that they are parallel to the waves, which makes them very likely to turn over. Ships are safest therefore when they can turn their bow to face directly into oncoming waves, however this is not always possible with a sail-driven vessel, and impossible if there is no rudder. The second best position is to point away from the waves and "run before the wind", which is what a sail-driven ship WITH a rudder would do in a storm, likely aided by a sea-anchor to help provide additional drag in the stern and hold it facing the waves. A rectangular box with no rudder and no sail would soon be turned so that its long side would be broadside to the waves, and be flipped Poseidon style.
