    Ah-hah

A Pratt is the polite word for a Wa*ker, which makes Tony Blair one hell of a pratt!

What is the dissatisfaction with Tony Blair - where do we start?

    1. They have changed tax law for IT companies which means that the whole of Simon's company's income is treated and taxed as personal income with no allowance for company expenses which prevents investment in the company and means its harder to compete with larger companies (which the law dosn't apply to...surprise, surprise - they advised the government to implement it).

    2. They have spent over $1.5bn on the 'millenium dome' which is probably going to be bulldozed next year.

    3. Hospital waiting lists have gone up despite billions being spent on the NHS. They made a promise that "no one would wait over two years for an operation" but then changed the rules so that you have to wait before you are on a waiting list (so you don't get counted) and if you've been on a list for two years you just get moved to a different list!

    4. Schools are closing and good teachers are being replaced with unskilled 'helpers'. Liam's school has just changed from a nursery school to a nursery class which means they don't have to pay for proper teachers.

    5. Petrol costs over $2 per litre, the roads are in the worst state since records began and there is congestion everywhere. His right hand man gave a speech telling us to use our cars less and avoid making unneccessary car journeys but went from his hotel to the conference centre to give it (400 yards) in a 6litre Janguar...his wife went in a separate car exactly the same.

    6. We can't go more than a few months without a train crash. That's when they run at all.

    7. They let the flood defenses in many areas run-down despite warnings so we now have massive flooding in many areas. Over 40 rivers in the UK are on high-flood-alert and people have been evacuated.

    Other than that...it's great!

    Another one...

    8. Petrol and pensions were both supposed to rise by the cost of inflation but Petrol went up over 3% whereas pensions rose by just 1%...they took the inflation figures on different days. Pensioners were given 75p extra a week. One old man sent a cheque for 75p to the Inland Revenue in protest because he was so digusted and they cashed it !

    We're going to emmigrate BTW...

    Angharad,

I had no idea! So much for my romantic vision of England! Does Tony Blair realistically have the power to effect needed changes? Does he have the will? What are his political priorities? Who deserves the blame for the conditions? Is it a symptom of overall economic doldrums and lack of revenue? Are the working people truly represented (House of Commons?)? Thanks for all of the insights!

    Hey Angharad,

Wow, and you and Simon seem to be in a better mood than most of us most of the time......

A parliament elected by the universal suffrage of voters grouped according to geographical areas, is about as truly representative as a bottle of Bovril is a true representation of an ox. Eleanor Rathbone

The House of Lords is an ermine-lined dustbin, an upmarket geriatric home with a faint smell of urine. Austin Mitchell

And the common consensus of the American elections (at least by common me):

Elections are held to delude the populace into believing that they are participating in government. Gerald Lieberman

True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country. Kurt Vonnegut

    Wow!

We still don't know who will be the next president of the usa.....

Politicians are like nappies. They should be changed regularly and for the same reason. Patrick Murray

We just don't know who to change to....

    Hi Ah-hah

Sorry I've took so long to answer

In answer to your question about Tony Blair making changes: he has the authority and they've taken the money off everyone to pay for it but whether they have the intelligence to actually do it is another matter. Basically he is all talk but no real substance.

    Here's one of his latest fiasco's: http://msn.co.uk/exredir.asp?STARTID=2232&URL=http://itn.co.uk/news/20001112/britain/01dome.shtml
