Just wondering how many of us are nurses? I'm a Licenced Practical Nurse (working on my RN degree), and I work as a Cosmetic Dermatology Specialist. I see about 10 to 16 patients per day, doing things like laser hair removal treatments, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, skin care consultations, etc. I also have extensive experience in the medical aspect of dermatology. I have an awesome job.

Nurses, step forward and tell us what you do!

Not exactly a nurse, but still in the medical world. I'm a lab tech, so get to interact with lots of cool nurses.

A lab tech... Merfi, is that a job you enjoy? If so, how long did the schooling take, and is the pay decent?

I love love love my job! For many reasons. It's different every day (with ER, inpatients, outpatients etc) so never is boring. It's interesting to me because it's science/biology/chemistry, which have always been my favorite things. And it changes and moves forward all the time. Like I said up there, I get to interact with lots of medical personnel, not just nurses. We work with the docs, other lab techs, EMTs, x-ray techs and so on. It really feels like a team effort most of the time. :)

I'm a four-year tech (went to that dreaded college) with a BS degree in Medical Technology. There are also two-year techs. The pay is all over the board... A straight out of school 2-year tech can start around here, at between $13-17/hr. Four-year techs can start at $20+/hr. That's Iowa rates -- higher cost of living areas pay much much better. I could prolly pull down around $30-35+ in Cali, ie.

Every day I'm thankful that I bucked the JW system on that college thing and went on. I'm a single mom of three and making it mostly on my wages as the sperm donor is never current on child support... So I'm pretty thankful that I do what I do. :) Not just because I enjoy it, but also because it feeds us. Perfect package.

That's wonderful, liking your job, making good money, and helping people all at the same time! Wish I could say the same. I make good money, but am miserable and don't have the satisfaction of doing something good in my shift. Interesting career idea, thanks.

I have been a RN for 10 years. Mostly Med-Surg and Telemetry. Due to illness, I'm, currently, not working.

I'm not a nurse although my wife is a midwife. I'm posting though because I was really impressed by this gesture to the Britsih nurses, who like all nurses are great! -

George Michael to give concert for nurses

    Wednesday November 15, 12:41 PM

LONDON (Reuters) - Pop star George Michael will give a special concert in London next month for NHS nurses to thank them for caring for his mother who died of cancer in 1997.

The gig at the Roundhouse on December 20 will mark the end of his sell-out tour of Europe, which was his first for 15 years.

"Almost ten years ago, during the last week of my mother's life, I told my friends and family that if I ever played my own concerts again I would make sure to do a free one for NHS nurses," the 43-year-old said in a statement.

"The nurses that helped my family at that time were incredible people, and I realised just how undervalued these amazing people are.

"And so I want to thank them with a Christmas concert. I can't wait. Neither can the tour crew, for entirely different reasons."

I am an RN as well received my AA in 73 and my BSN in 76 and my MSN and ACLS in 79 I worked mostly in Critical care and ER and did a stint for a while with the coroners office. Left nursing in 98 but not completely, still work occasionally through a registry so I can take my CEU'S to keep my license current.
