Sorry about the loss of your friend, Scooby. Alcoholism is a horrible thing. You wish you could force them to get sober but you know that's not possible...they have to want it for themselves, to find a reason to live. Some, like Kelvin, never do.

I'm sorry you lost your friend. Try not to think of his life as a waste. It'll only make you sadder. It sounds like he was a really great guy in many ways. He helped and cheered patients, and brought laughter to his colleagues at work. That doesn't sound like a waste to me. True, he went before his time and before he needed to becaue of his addiction, but still, it does sound as if he did many good things while he was here. Think of those things when you think of your friend.

I've lost several family members and friends because of alcohol. Very sad.
