Attended my friends funeral on Saturday. There was an interesting time prior to the service. The place was packed, and there was an organist playing this solemn church music. Then about 20 minutes before the service, the minister came out and stopped the organ music, then she turned on a CD and sound system, and we were treated to 20 minutes of Wes' favorite rock and blues songs, compiled by his youngest son. It ended with John Lennon's Imagine (very interesting to hear in a church setting "Imagine no heaven,... no religion too"), and they brought the casket in, perfectly timed to coincide with the song.
The church service was mainly rote readings and songs, but there were several very touching personal expressions, especially by his youngest son. Not a dry eye during that one!
I've got a piece on Wes coming out in tomorrow's edition of my paper, with a photo of Wes that I took.
Thanks again for the expressions.
