Aw crap my cat did it again.
This morning as I was getting my oldest ready for school (she's in year round)
I hear this bird going crazy outside.
Tweeting and sqwaking.
I look out my kitchen window in the backyard and lo and behold
Queen Neferkitty has this bird tackled and is trying to chew her.
AACK! Yuck.
So I got out there and Neferkitty let her go but kept after her as she hopped madly around the backyard.
Finally behind the garage I found the two of them.
Neferkitty waiting anxiously in front of bird and the bird laying there wide eyed (I think) with wings out.
I got Neferkitty away. But then the dog, a shihtzu named Buster, came round sniffing.
Finally after the commotion had settled and Neferkitty was in the house the bird hopped away but couldn't take off flying.
After I got back home,I checked outside and the bird was no where to be found.

I couldn't help but wonder if I did the right thing.
I mean it's nature right?
Yes Neferkitty has a collar and bell. I guess she's too good.
This isn't the first time she's played with the birds.
It just seemed so mean, even though it is all a part of nature.
Like I said, wonder if I did the 'right' thing.

Yeah, cats are predators, it is in their blood. Listen if the Kitty was not attacking the bird, she would be attacking your ankles - at least that is what my kitty does. :)

Ouch! Ankles yeah better the bird, lol.
That is just it, they are predators. It's a part of who they are.
I suppose I need to let nature take it's course?
I just felt so bad for that bird.

I understand where you are coming from. Just because it is natural, it does not mean that it does not upset us.

I've owned birds all my life. If a cat or dog bites a bird and breaks the skin even a little, the bird is almost certainly done for. Cat and dog saliva have bacteria that set up massive infections in birds, which usually kill them in a day or less. Sorry for the bad news. I love both birds and cats (although I don't own a cat), so I stay neutral in the whole cat/bird struggle. Both are acting according to their natures.

That poor bird! Oy, this is heart breaking.

So he's going to suffer? Yew. Yuck. Darn it.

Looking glass: yep, it is natural, but it so tough to watch.

It used to upset me when my cats ate a young hare. They always liked to eat the head and the carcass was awful sight to stumble across. When I would hear the bunnies screaming, I would usually run out the door to try to save them. One evening I stopped doing it. I decided that it was silly to try to impose human morals and ethics on to my cats. They are a completely different species and live this life completely different than I do. Besides, Mother Nature is far wiser than I.

I used to get so upset when my kitty brought the poor little bodies home. Every morning there would be 2-3 little mice or shrews laying on my step.

True gross story ;(
I ran outside late one night in my sock feet and stepped on a still warm furry little mouse body. OMG! I thought I was going to be sick.

Icky, very icky.

Oy. That sounds awful.
I think you are right about mother nature though.
Still it just is so, so awful at times.
Then again, what is awful to me is survival of the fittest to the rest.

Dams:
Yeah, this last winter I opened up my back door to find a dead mouse sitting there waiting for me. Ick.
Last summer I had left the screen window open and I come in the kitchen to find my cat crouched on the floor with a mouse in it's mouth.
I thwacked (not too hard I assure you) the back of her head and out popped this mouse and ran under my fridge.

Did you ever finally get her/him to stop the mouse abductions?
