It will bring them down a peg. The women I studied with went on and on about the Catholic Priests and said that if that ever happen to the ORG, she would leave, blah..blah..blah

I don't think it will be the demise of the Watchtower org.. but maybe it will make those who have some doubts think a little more as to whether this really is God's organization. I know my JW relatives were tsk-tsking and shaking their heads over the Catholic church scandel and said how it proved they were false religion.. Wonder what they will say now...

I wish I could continue commenting on this subject but I have 25 posts per day allotted. I want to reiterate that I would love to see Witnesses get out of the Organization. I think somethings may CHIP away at some individuals but as a rule, it is not going to be that an elder or a Bethelite got caught. We have to reach the heads and hearts of Witnesses to help them get it---that this is NOT the "TRUTH"! I hope that all of these things have a cumulative effect.

Does anyone else think it is entirely coincidental that the witnesses have been making group vows at conventions about not going online and suddenly this guy is busted for kiddy-porn? So now the "organization" can say; "see? this is what we were talking about, the internet is a very bad thing, stay away from it." I asked my JW sister where she gets her unbiased information if she's not allowed to Google "Jehovah's Witnesses" anymore. She replied 'she doesn't need any other information than what the elders give her.' THIS IS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING! Jim Jones frightening!! The only thing I can do is ask her to please reconsider if they ever ask her to do something against her consience. This is Fahrenheit 451 at its finest. I would go so far as to be a conspiracy theorist and say Bethel has sacrificed a lamb for the greater good. I do not trust them. I just feel so bad for the poor people who may never free themselves. Anyone know at what temperature a computer burns?

I could see that the Organization cooperated with the authorities for a reason. They're very calculating. Regarding putting total trust in the elders, the Society has masterfully manipulated those that are faithful, the core of remaining ones. It's like they're in a hypnotic spell and can't see the obvious anymore. Clearly, this group is Stepfordian.

it is about time the WTS attacked the cause and not the symptons. Demonizing the internet at District Conventions will not help. Only stopping the organization being a pedophle paradise will stop or reduce this sort of thing

IMHO, Minimus is making a lot of sense with his reasonable position that this too will pass. Just like everybody else, including him, we want to see the Watchtower revealed for what it is. However, given past experience with other orgs, including the Catholics, their own people are just going to blindly ignore the facts of this case. A few will be dislodged, but the org as a whole will just cop the stance that they hate child molesters and self-righteously truck right on.

I sometimes wonder if we ex-JW dissenters do ourselves any good by making too shrill a protest over these issues? I sometimes have a gut feel that standing outside a convention with a banner "JWs are child abusers" may be counterproductive...these JW people already know this happened. Maybe we stand the risk of making those who leave them for the highest of good reasons actually look like the "crazy apostates" that the WT is always screaming about.

Nevertheless, isn't it just great that good old bethel elder Jesus Cano stole all their district convention thunder and overshadowed whatever new light was being planned for this fall?

Yea, the little red dot is probably being the most practical about this. It probably will pass and the fallout will be forgotten kind of like the fallout of the cleanup of Bethel back around 1980 was forgotten for the most part.

If nothing else, though, it reitirates to us who have left that we have made the right choice and that there isn't any God behind the organization. Sometimes we need reassurance for our actions. And this one works pretty good for a lot of people.
