Elder admits to porn problem

  How about this effect that no one, certainly not the GB, seems to have thought of.

  An elder in our congregation is about to be removed, for something completely unrelated to porn. But, now that the July 15 2006 WT has come out with its 3 page Questions From Readers article about how "appointed men" are "no longer qualified" if caught viewing porn, every single person in the congregation is going to think, "Ah, so old Brother So and So was surfin' the web sites..."

  The anouncement to be read to the congregation is just "Brother So and So is no longer an elder"--no explanation given. And JWs are well-conditioned to imagine the worst if no details are supplied.

  I imagine that every single elder who steps down now will have a cloud over him, with the congregation thinking "Hmmm. wonder if he's really a wanker..."

  Actually, the cynical side of me wonders if this is an intended consequence of the Society's new "teaching"--as if they expect lots of elders to be stepping down, and this adds pressure on them to remain as elders, so as to avoid suspicion of being a porno perv.

  It's sad, too, that the guy seemed sincere in his confession. It may be heart breaking for him when he finds out the big fakes blabbed to their wives, who blabbed to everybody else, and now he has no hope of getting his life back together with dignity.

  They'll probably "encourage" the wife to divorce him, even telling her she should get a divorce. They'll egg her on, until she thinks she must put him out of the family home, when left to themselves to work it out, they might have mended the marriage. Jehoopla prefers that, doesn't he, hating a divorce, or does he approve of meddling in a marriage, and backstabbing?

  Not that I would like my hubby getting a lap dance from a stripper, but I hope he never feels he has to! If he looks at some porn, I really don't care; he does it at home and doesn't feel I'm strangling the joy out of his life, or being repressed and prudish.

  Poor JW wives... they're raised to be goody two shoes, then their husbands get bored with them, and go find a topless bimbo for a little excitement! The sisters are unwitting victims too in this unhealthy, unnatural religion.

  With all this sex and nudity flying in the face of every man (and woman) how can anyone be so hard towards a guy who’s looking at porn. Its an effect to avoid it, after all, we’re all normal, I drive in the car and I see a Bill Board for a brothel and a sexy woman saying “You got the urge?”. I watch porn like any one else, but I keep it to myself.

  If a man is to be a spiritual shepherd he must not be having lap dancing done on him in public places then going to these people's doors. However, since he does have the problem, think of the guts it must have taken for this man to go to the BOE and confess. I am sure he was looking for compassion and fellow feeling, but it sounds like they have already made a decision amongst themselves.

  Shouldn't they have immediately shown their love for him, and HELPED HIM to overcome this problem and get his marriage back on track?

  Yet another victim to the one eyed monster. The problem is, HIS conscience was not bothering him per se. His WTS conscience was bothering him. Lets be honest here, we are all men, with weaknesses. For the BOE to blow him off like that and condemn him is cruel. Yet, the indoctrination of the WTS forces people to confess to a self appointed god, like those men had the power to forgive.

  I really like what you said. I too would not be too thrilled if my hubby had went to see a stripper and paid for a lap dance. But that is between he and I and the elders should not be involved. There is just too much emphasis on sex at the kh and how bad it is and how we all are just stumbling around just waiting to do the bump bounce boogie. It never works, the more you forbid something, the more people want to do it. They have had the same problem with the "occult' . Most people are not that interested in the psychic realm but jws seem to have an inordinate interst in it, mainly due to all the weird stories in the mags.

  I feel sorry for all the good jws girls too. They are at risk of losing that jws man to some nice normal worldy girl who likes sex, or of him leading a double life. Liking sex does not make you a slut. that is very old thinking, something that men used to think years ago. There are people who still think like that, uptight persons.

  Where do you start to help these people?

  This whole "anti boobie" campaign will backfire.

  Young boys driven by hormones will become apathetic. They will realize that doing what a normal 14 year old does, is a sin for which Jehoobie will obliterate them forever.

  They will stop listening to "timely counsel" knowing they are doomed to family humiliation and ostracism. ( As well as having any hope of healthy sexual development curtailed -ABUSE by the cult is what I call it)

  If playing with yourself whilst looking at photies of Britney or Lola Ferrari can get you a sentence of death - well "in for a penny, in for a pound." Huge numbers of youths will just go out and do the real thing, because they reckon they are going to be DF when they are found out anyway.

  Just so my thinking is clear, the Dfing and possibility of wife divorcing the elder are due to the touching of his penis by the topless dancer? The porn watching while sexual in nature is no longer a Dfing offence and certainly not grounds for divorce.

  Also, the elder’s confessing might actually have been his way of getting out from under the burden of congregational assignments.
