Abraham, came from an area that was a prominent seat of worship of the moon god Sin. After the Exodus, the Israelites spent a long time in Sin’ai, the desert of the moon god. In fact, many of the events in the calendars of all three faiths are still determined by the moon. Easter, Ramadan and the beginning of every month in the Jewish calendar are based on the moon......

It's true and everyone should heed what the stretchy green god Gumbers says.

The name Terah (Abrahams father) is linked to the moon cult and Terah was clearly involved in moon or idol worship. Joshua 24:2 says: And Joshua said to all the people, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Your fathers lived of old beyond the Euphra'tes, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods"

Now this is interesting (or at least I find it interesting as I love biblical/ancient history). Another early account of idol/moon worship is found in the Book of Jubilees which didn't make it into the bible but dates to around the middle of the 2nd century BCE. According to the Book of Jubilees, Terah not only worshipped the moon/idols but also studied “the researches of the Chaldeans in order to practice divination and astrology according to the signs of heaven” (Jubilees 11.8). It also states that Abraham (when he was quite young) recognized that his kin/friends strayed from true religion: “And the lad began understanding the straying of the land, that everyone went astray after graven images and after pollution.” So Abraham “separated from his father” and prayed to God to be kept safe from the idolatrous errors of his family and neighbors (Jubilees 11.16–17).

But my question is: Was there such a thing as "true religion" during the time of Abraham? This was long before the time of the Israelites and the Ten Commandments and as far as I can see, there was no set of doctrinal rules then....

Oh I forgot; Abraham was really a witness for Jehovah, in that unbroken line that goes all the way back to Abel.

Mary.....you went and forgot about "the book of Adam" spoken of in Genesis. Since Moses was the first that god made himself " known to", I guess everyone was on their own. I'm thinkin all the book of Adam consisted of was sexual positions however since that's all the poor guy had to do when he was done with his gardening work and came in the tent for a cold beer.

Which he no doubt sent Eve to the store to get along with a dirty magazine scroll right?

Ahem.....I found some interesting info on what you said though:

"....The Talmud says nothing about the existence of a Book of Adam, and Zunz's widely accepted assertion to the contrary ("G. V." 2d ed., p. 136) is erroneous, as appears upon an inspection of the passage in 'Ab. Zarah, 5a, and Gen. R. xxiv. 2....however, that there existed at an early date, perhaps even before the destruction of the Second Temple, a collection of legends of Adam and Eve which have been partially preserved, not in their original language, but somewhat changed...."

".....And Satan the Adversary (Suk. 52a) selected the serpent for his tool, as it was not only the most subtle of all animals, but also very similar to man, for it had been endowed with hands and legs like him (remember that gross lizard that Captain Kirk had to battle on that planet?? Sounds just like what a serpent used to look like). And Satan spoke to the serpent: "Be my instrument, and through thy mouth will I utter a word which shall enable thee to seduce man" (Pir?e R. El. xiii.). After some pleading the serpent succeeded in persuading Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge—a fig-tree (Gen. R. xv. 7)—which the serpent had shaken for her (Ab. R. N. i. 4, ed. Schechter). But the serpent had infused lust into the fruit, and when Eve had eaten of it the sexual desire awoke in her (Slavonic Book of Baruch, xcvii.; Apoc. Abraham, xxiii., and Pir?e R. El. xxi.), and at the same moment she became aware that she had been undone and "had lost the garment of righteousness in which she had been clothed" (Gen. R. xix. 6, Pir?e R. El. xiv.). Adam, too, after he had eaten of the forbidden fruit, experienced a sense of loss and cried out: "What hast thou done? Thou hast removed me from the glory of the Lord" (Ab. R. N. i. 6, ed. Schechter).

And they both blamed it on the moon I'm sure.

Yer right Mary...I also read that piece. The book of Adam was considered ancient FICTION....hence not included in the bible OT.

No need to remind me. I had it covered (and somethings uncovered....ahem).

And Wednesday, you did fine, girl. You did just fine. Next time just add a bowl of water, some incense and a candle (warning: do not burn thyself or others with fire--always play safe with fire, kids ; )

    Goddess Bless,
