Abraham, came from an area that was a prominent seat of worship of the moon god Sin. After the Exodus, the Israelites spent a long time in Sin’ai, the desert of the moon god. In fact, many of the events in the calendars of all three faiths are still determined by the moon. Easter, Ramadan and the beginning of every month in the Jewish calendar are based on the moon......
It's true and everyone should heed what the stretchy green god Gumbers says.
The name Terah (Abrahams father) is linked to the moon cult and Terah was clearly involved in moon or idol worship. Joshua 24:2 says: And Joshua said to all the people, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Your fathers lived of old beyond the Euphra'tes, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods"
Now this is interesting (or at least I find it interesting as I love biblical/ancient history). Another early account of idol/moon worship is found in the Book of Jubilees which didn't make it into the bible but dates to around the middle of the 2nd century BCE. According to the Book of Jubilees, Terah not only worshipped the moon/idols but also studied “the researches of the Chaldeans in order to practice divination and astrology according to the signs of heaven” (Jubilees 11.8). It also states that Abraham (when he was quite young) recognized that his kin/friends strayed from true religion: “And the lad began understanding the straying of the land, that everyone went astray after graven images and after pollution.” So Abraham “separated from his father” and prayed to God to be kept safe from the idolatrous errors of his family and neighbors (Jubilees 11.16–17).
But my question is: Was there such a thing as "true religion" during the time of Abraham? This was long before the time of the Israelites and the Ten Commandments and as far as I can see, there was no set of doctrinal rules then....
Oh I forgot; Abraham was really a witness for Jehovah, in that unbroken line that goes all the way back to Abel.
