But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

In the brochure "Jehovahs witnesses Who are they and what do they believe" it says this:

In themselves, recent world happenings are bad, but what they signify is good, namely, Christ’s presence. The conditions mentioned above started to be evident in that widely heralded year 1914! It marked the end of the Gentile Times and the beginning of the transition period from human rule to the Thousand Year (Millennial) Reign of Christ.

That there was to be a transition period is indicated by the 110th Psalm, verses 1 and 2, and Revelation 12:7-12. There it is shown that Christ would sit at God’s right hand in heaven until the time for his becoming King. Then war in heaven would result in Satan’s being cast to earth, bringing woe to the earth, and Christ would rule in the midst of his enemies. The complete end of wickedness would come by means of a “great tribulation,” culminating in the war at Har–Magedon and followed by Christ’s Thousand Year Reign of peace.—Matthew 24:21, 33, 34; Revelation 16:14-16.

The Bible Students today believe Jesus did in fact return in 1878 to rule invisible and that this reign will continue to 2878. In 2878, the door to salvation would be closed.

Steve ny --- we are in what is called the perousia (sp?) . I don't have a problem with that at all because jesus said alot of things that would point to his presence while people would be saying ," where is this promised presence of his" ? That's an entirely different discussion as to when this thing started .The WTBTS says 1914, mainstream religion says 1948 whenever jerusalem became a nation in the UN . Alot of us on the board don't think judah fell to babylon in 607 bce thus there may be a 20 year variance . That's only if you still believe that the seven times in Daniel 4 can be multiplied by 360 then added as a day for a year .............................

But there is a good chance that the 1000 year period of that kingdom is not literal and it could just mean a very long period of time. Revelation is a very symbolic book.

i thought it was 1914 that jesus starting ruling and that the 1000 years would be the amount of time after Armageddon that humans have to become perfect before being tested again....someone help!

Yes, according to Russell's understanding the Millennium begins around the time of the Parousia of Christ (for Russell, 1874), but for current JWs it must wait until Armageddon. For Russell, there was an overlapping of the ages, which meant that the 40 years of harvest (1874 - 1914) coincided with the beginning of restitution blessings.

It seems that the perspective of the Golden Age magazine was that new technology and advancements in science (or pseudoscience, if you will) were evidence that the world was already into the millennium and that rule of the earth would be turned over to Christ and the 144,000 shortly.

It must be remembered that the thousand year reign is not the reign of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ reigns forever. It is the anointed christians who will rule or reign WITH Christ for a thousand years. It is their rule that is one thousand years--not Christ's. Jesus Christ began ruling after he ascended to heaven, that's why Hebrews says he was inaugurated as opposed to will be inaugurated.

Inkie --- Good point but there is a literal 1k millenial reign that starts when jesus rules the earth and the governments are removed and he is the only one left with the 144k sharing in rulership. Personally I think the whole thing takes place when the city of new jerusalem descends to earth and all faithful and true from the great crowd are rounded up to live there for the thousand years . Everybody not allowed in is destroyed with fire . I think that's what the apostle Paul was talking about when he mentioned being changed and being with the lord since it's pretty clear that the 144k are all murdered by christs enemies on earth prior to the final destruction of the world . If we include all 1st century christians we know that most of them were murdered by the romans and jews but today we seldom hear of any martyrs so it may be that they are included in the 144k of Revelation , not really sure on how that one pans out.

It's interesting that this is such a core belief of breakaway and newer religious groups, particularly the American evangelical born again breakaway groups and those that demonise the older more established church - despite any scripture to the contrary, they insist on this as fundamental truth - the mellenialism impetence is a strange insistence, not unlike 'fds' or 'the truth' and such things.

    ducks for cover......
