  I felt this deserved its own post. Please consider the eventual effect of deepening Watchtower restrictions as regards sex and porn

  and their effect on individual Witnesses, namely:

  "I'm doomed!"

  Look, if you surround a person with impossible spiritual demands long enough, you're going to get three responses:

  1) some people will become apathetic, because they are drained by restrictions they can't meet (unless they're really old)

  2) some people will simply give up, burdened by the guilt

  3) some people will become complete hypocrites, because they can't possibly meet the standards.

  Unless they're total idiots ( they may be) they must realize that giving any emphasis to masturbation as a grievous sin can

  cause people to simply give up completely, especially young people who can't help themselves ( "there's no point in even trying...")

  As for viewing porn, it works much the same way. When I was young, it was nearly impossible to view the sort of explicit

  material that is available for free , over the internet, today. Does the phrase "full frontal nudity" sound dated? It should!

  If they really expect people to live up to their latest screed on sex and porn, they need to develop isolated, Amish

  style communities, which, of course, they'll never do.

  The more they talk about this subject, complete with threats of disfellowshipping, the more they will have shot themselves in the

  foot, collectively.

  In my view sex is a compensation for the lack of proper social and emotional support and the JW is very poor in that respect so it will motivate people to have sex. Sex is seeking warmth and acceptance and the healing sense of power that this brings.

  I too think this policy of enforcing even harsher rules on the r & f will have a negative effect in both the short term and the long term. Some of those who are wavering now because they find the gb's demands so hard to meet will simply give up and either fade or da from the org, and there could be a knock on effect on youngsters not yet committed and potential converts from the door to door work. They aren't exactly flooding in anymore anyway, and this type of tightening of the rules might, hopefully, drive them away.

  Last week my daughter and I were watching a program about AIDS in Africa, and they were visiting very poor villages. I pointed out that in this country we are lucky to have advice about birth control and access to it, because so many people all over the world either don't know or don't have access to this type of info.

  My daughter said, "Screw that, I would just not have sex! Why don't those people just stop having sex?" To which the narrator answered almost on cue, " When you have NOTHING, when you are ISOLATED, no food, no proper clothing, and all you have around you are the friends that have grown in misery with you, all you have left to do with your time is sex. This becomes your only option for entertainment. "

  To me that's just like the JWs. The GB has taken EVERYTHING from them that could be pleasurable. Now they want to take the sex away too. It won't work.

  They have to have a pressure release valve.

  That's usually a classic porno plot line. People get caught in a cave or something or the end of the world is coming so they pass the time with sex.

  Yeah, I never understood why they are so against masturbation. There are various documented medical benefits (build up of the immune system, tension release, reduce the risk of prostate cancer). Growing up we had a pet bird that used to masterbate and my mom would try to stop him but he just kept doing it. Eventually she just gave up. She said, "he doesn't know right from wrong"

  Witnesses will always have guilt since they are all sinners and will always sin.....even though they are told that "willful sin" is a bad thing. Most all sin is willful.

  The only way around their dilema is to adopt the conventional way....."once saved, always saved".... or.."in Jesus, all sins are washed clean" and they are not about to go that route.

  Even their annointed can fall from grace....so what hope does one of the other sheep have? Plus, they never gain salvation. They even have no assurence AFTER the 1,000 year reign since they believe MOST will fall when Satans let loose..( see pic in Revelation Book)

  Ya gotta remember though....Jesus said "I have sheep not of this fold (annointed)....and they would be one flock with one shepard"....so they at least get teased with this one a bit.
