LadyLiberty: Yep that’s it, it takes two to play that game and I’m simply not doing it anymore. I think I was allowing myself to be a victim in that game and well, I guess it was just time to try a different way of doing things. You hang in there as well and keep strong.
I know sometimes it will still hit me, but I guess I have a different way of seeing things now.

BSOM--I think that is great! For many years I felt sooooo uncomfortable when I would see JWs I knew. Now I really don't care, in fact I was cracking up to myself the day before Easter--I was wearing an Easter sweater with bunnys and Easter eggs all over it and ran into a JW at Walmart. I was busy talking to someone else I knew so I looked over, smiled and said hi; she paused as if she was willing to speak to me but then moved on--probably after noticing my very Easter sweater--I was cracking up to myself.
CLASSIC!!! I am going to start doing that.

I too have started doing my part at least. I just sent a letter to my friend that threatened to turn me in. It was just a card with some gifts we sent for her kids, and it was just a casual card about life and things here. Nothing with JW issues. She is ignoring me, but I'm not going to just let her forget about me.
We haven't been DFed or DAed also but we are still being shunned. Amazing.
I think I made this connection when I realized, I'm still going to be human to them even if they treat me inhumanely.

I figure if I do play by their rules still, then I am still 'captive'. If a person asks me not to contact them, fine, that is their wishes. But until I am asked by the individual, I am not going to play dead.

If I let them shun me and I play by their rules and I don't even try to say hi or show them what real friendship is like, what does that say about me?
I failed my first live shunning but I'm not going to let that happen again. If I get the opportunity to be polite to an old friend I'll do so. Not much of a chance as they all live a six hour flight away, but you know...
