I feel so panicky at the moment. I just heard (not from him) that he got somebody to go to the reject Jesus memorial. This person has no idea of the implications of this action. I now need to have a discussion with this person, which I really don't want to do but must. My child is very upset by this turn of events as the child has extreme respect for this person. The child knows this is a cult and is very worried as am I. The person going is completely ignorant about the jw's and cults in general. Any suggestions? thanks much.

Carla how well do you know this person? Would you say you and hubby have an equal standing relationship with him. You'll have to tread carefully so as not to upset them. Perhaps a discussion with this person outlining what is involved in the memorial. the rejection of the bread and wine and what the significance of it is too. Perhaps you can try talking about it as a 'don't you think this is interesting' as opposed to giving it a negative tone.

thanks for the reply.
How do I not upset someone telling them about this org? It is evil through and through. I will try not to upset them but they just have no clue.

Carla - try not to overreact to this person. That will drive them straight into the cult's arms. Depending who this person is, you may want to let them go and THEN start a discussion with "What did you think of the Memorial?" "Do you want to know why I don't go?" Then give them ONE or TWO things to think about. Don't bombard them. If this person is an adult remember - they have the choice as far as what to do so don't push too hard.

To be honest if this person does go, I will lose all respect for them. I look at it as their supporting his cult activities and supporting the cult. Of all the people I have had the jw discussion with, this one will be the hardest. Wish me luck I will need it.

It could be that this person didn't know how to say no when your husband asked. I'd have to say that going to the Memorial is more likely to turn this guy/gall off than anything else. Its a rather sterile, strange little observance that usually makes non-JWs scratch their heads in confusion. I like the idea of non-confrontationally asking what they thought of the evening and go from there.

For some JWs even if they haven't attended any other meetings all year long, they find it hard not to attend the Memorial. After years of seeing certain people come only for that, I decided this time I would not do that. I have been inactive for varying periods of time in the past but always went to the "memorial." Not any more, have been to anything for 4 years.
I think when inactive JWs find that their worship is not tied to a group of people, it is easier not to go. I think JW family tend to shun you more if you stop making the memorial too. (assuming you aren't df'd or da'd).
I would say that less than 1% of those inactive/da'd/df'd JWs that came, came to other meetings afterwards.
It's a way to appease your family.

Let him read this and then ask him if he wants to see a room full of people celebrate their most holy occasion by rejecting the wine and bread that represents Jesus' blood and body:
John 6:35-59 I am the bread of life,”
Jesus told them. “No one who comes to Me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again. But as I told you, you’ve seen Me, and yet you do not believe. Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of Him who sent Me: that I should lose none of those He has given Me but should raise them up on the last day. For this is the will of My Father: that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” Therefore the Jews started complaining about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They were saying, “Isn’t this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can He now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus answered them, “Stop complaining among yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets: And they will all be taught by God. Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father comes to Me— not that anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God. He has seen the Father. “ I assure you : Anyone who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.” At that, the Jews argued among themselves, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “ I assure you : Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life in yourselves. Anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day, because My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink. The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood lives in Me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the manna your fathers ate—and they died. The one who eats this bread will live forever.” He said these things while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. -

Carla, let this person know both sides before he even steps foot in the arms of the loving jws . I have done this and feel i have helped those that didn't know any better and they were glad that i did . Don't let him walk in blind but have a sense of what he is walking into unlike walking infront of a moving car that they never saw coming .
