There is a sense of liberation once one gets disentangled from a set of beliefs that are not the truth though presented as such, and once one leaves behind the burden that pressed down the spirit all those man made regulations. There are plenty of other nice people to replace misguided family members that do not keep up contact so I am not surprised that you no longer care about them.
