In a move not surprising to ex members of the pervasive sect known as Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society issued a censorship request to Google -- the world’s largest internet search software company. Although it was a privately issued request, JWD News has obtained a copy of the formal request issued Monday from one of Watchtower’s dissident factory workers. The unpaid Bethel headquarters’ employee has been working at the Society’s printing factory for some three years.

The request for censorship nearly mimics the one that the Chinese government successfully obtained for Google servers that are based on it own soil. It effectively filters any sites harboring information with anti-Chinese phrases, sentences, and slogans.

The Watchtower request promises to provide Google with first and last names of all its adherents in addition to the necessary IP addresses of each, providing such members have home computers.

The New York based billion-dollar corporation effectively shut down a prominent dissenting Canadian web site only weeks ago.

You are not far from the truth!

WT might ask it's members to install a special filter program on it's home computers to protect the teenagers in the family. The WT safe search software would keep an up to date special database of "unapproved" websites IP adresses and make sure your home computer blocks these sites. Any one who doesn't comply would be "marked" just like if they refuse to have the elders sign their no-blood-transfusion card.-

Better yet, the Wt will release some CD that when played on the JW's computer will install a spyware program that will rat out the JW home if they visit non-approved apostate websites- WOW, won't that be fun for the elders!

    peace,

To those I offended, I apologize. Yes, I tried to space the spoof disclaimer, but my browser adds more lines than I anticipated.

Moshe, your extention of the censorship potential is excellent.

Fatfreek... good one! I fell for it. I guess it's pretty bad when something like is actually believable...

Well, I do not know how these things work. But I would not be surprised that Brooklyn would try things like this to control what appears in google searches. I imagine they cannot ever achieve that level of control.

The best control comes from internal bans and guilt. Though the last few years I think they have lost that battle.

...ad the watchtower filter won't block porn since it's the only way elders get any.. It will just notify elders of porn viewing so they can "correct" you on it.
