The subject of incest makes a lot of people see red. Maybe it's because humans are the only species to condemn incest. Maybe it reminds us of where we may have come from?

However we aren't the only species that has a "taboo" of sorts against it. There are plenty of animals that will not under any circumstances breed or mate with their siblings. Some animals do, most don't. It's not a good idea evolutionarily speaking so for the most part it doesn't happen.

I see no harm in it, you can go out and buy fags, or you can stay home and roll your own.

well here's a thought. If you believe the bible account Eve was made FROM Adam, so they apparently had the same genetic material. Kinda like having sex with himself. That's kinda funky. LOL

    Spartacus:

You are proof that the attack against the Watchtower on the issue of molestation is rooted in hysteria. You are way off the charts.

If it weren't for incest none of us would be here.

Geneticists can prove scientifically that we all came from one pair of humans, in the same kind of genetic studies which trace families of virus. This would point to the fact that there was not either evolution en-mass occurring across the primates, or that the survival of the fittest concept gradually spread succsesively stronger genes throughout the population. The theory of "punctuated equalibrium" would seem to be compatible with this.
Scientists actually nick name our original pre-decessors "Adam & Eve".
Therefore, I think it stands to reason that whether you believe in creation, or evolution, there was a time when incest was not only "allowed" but the only option available.

    Strange subject anyway!!!

In anthropology class tonight the teacher said that there was only one universal cultural characteristic and that was that every culture on earth had an incest taboo.

    Thought that was interesting.

Ballisitc - could you go a little further on your findings? It sounds very interesting. Perhaps a link?

I don't think Spartacus understood, if I took her post the wrong way I would have gotten just as hostile. :) It's Ok, we still luv ya. :)

Very good point tho - break the rules then don't break the rules, it gets a bit confusing.

yeah, I'll have a look tommorrow for you.
So far my searches for Adam and Eve brought up several porn sites and this, but it's too technical for me...

).... The ANT-C is separated from the BX-C by some
10cM on Drosophila chromosome III. It contains five protein-coding genes
including Deformed (Dfd), Sex combs reduced (Scr), and Antennapedia (Antp).
These genes control development of parasegments 0 and 1 (Dfd), 2 and 3
(Scr), and 4 and 5 (Antp). As with genes in the BX-C, the linear order of
genes in the ANT-C corresponds to their pattern of expression along the body
axis. This organization of both the ANT-C and BX-C is not likely to be
    serendipitous,
