I enjoyed your description of how your DF Appeal Meeting went. You mentioned they cornered you re: your site by posts you made here on JWD and at Wikipedia. I'm curious as to their modus opperandi. Could you give us any clues about what they look for?

I too have been curious how the info here might be used against a person.

The monitors are preparing to cleanse the North Carolina congregations of all apostate influences.

Sorta like what happened at Jesus birth when Herod cleansed Bethlehem.

    Hi Cabasilas

One of the elders in the committee was from a congregation over an hours drive away, so i wondered why he was involved. He must be the WTS Internet guru as he wheeled out all the information they had found on me on the Internet.

It was really quite simple what they had done. A brother accused me of being the owner of jwfacts.com so they probably typed jwfacts into google. Hundreds of results come up, many referring to JWD. They then read the posts looking for personal information that I have written.

The most damning evidence was from an internet registry site. When I registered my site i had to put in my details such as postal address. It then realised they can be found on the internet and so changed them to a fake postal address. Somehow they had my original details, so it must be cached on a search engine or site somewhere.

If you do not want to be found remember the internet is totally visible to people. So do not put up too many personal descriptions etc. If you say you are from somewhere you can always claim it could be one of many people, but they had found details I had posted at different times about my history in the org, my wife, my cafe, my education, my parents, my city of residence etc. It was all circumstantial though until it came to my postal address.

Um excuse me, but I think I'd be asking them the obvious:

What are they doing, looking at 'apostate' websites? For them to piece together all the facts about you, someone was spending an inordinate amount of time on this site. So if you can be disfellowshipped for being on here, then they must be able to as well.

What are they doing, looking at 'apostate' websites?

I like to call it "Righteous Research". It is basically the same thing when they review pornographic or "demonic" material so they can then go and tell others NOT to look at it.

I'm certain many of these brothers keep an extensive archive of such naughty material for the purpose of refreshing their memories on a regular basis. They wouldn't want to let their memories get "soft" you know!

In my own job, nothing to do with religion, I received a report that someone claiming to work for my organisation was giving away information about the organisation against our rules - in a chatroom.

It was my responsibility to establish his identity & take disciplinary action. I confronted him with the evidence I gathered, accepted his apology and assurances about future behaviour, and gave him a formal warning.

It was quite simple, although he did not give away too much personal information in any single post, when I examined his post history, the dozens of clues, from descriptions of his workplace, when he changed jobs, when & where he spent holidays, etc etc etc made it easy to narrow it down to one individual.

The message is - don't leave too many clues, unless of course you have no need for anonymity.
