  If the WTS were to say it was just a religious issue that would be one thing, but in their haste to promote the potential medical benefits of refusing blood they have misrepresented facts. Anyone who parrots those facts is doing so at their own risk.

  See it from a Judge's point of view. If a mundane mechanic, hair-dresser or bus driver "parrots" this blood story, would you comply? Anyone can express an opinion about medical care, but only your qualified medical doctor (a physician) can be held acountable for wrong information and/or treatment.

  The day some of us decided to give our lives -and thinking- away to a religious cult, that day we became accountable for the deadly medical procedures we accepted from those unqualifed people.

  And this is precisely why the WTS hammers away at the point that refusing blood transfusions is a personal decision.

  The accountability becomes ours, the responsibility for the outcome becomes ours. We owe it to ourselves and our families to do the research ourselves rather than rely on people who are completely unqualified to offer a credible medical opinion on anything.

  This is the entire objective of informed consent.

  If that is the ROLE they do it in, no. And that is what everyone who is missing the impact is missing about this.

  The theory demonstrates (quite convincingly) that there was a voluntary fiduciary role created and maintained by the Society, the HLCs, and even the elder bodies when it comes to informing citizens of various states about a medical practice.

  Had they maintained a strictly religious fiduciary role, there would be no way to touch them. They did not. They are openly exposed.

  By the way, Gerard, did you notice where Randy is coming out on this issue? The best possible side, in my opinion.

It is with great pleasure and most humble thanks that the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management [SABM] presents this award as a Pioneer in Blood Management to the men and women of the Hospital Information Services of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society." Spence presented a Certificate of Recognition and an award "For Your Pioneering Efforts in the Field of Bloodless Medicine and Surgery" to Hospital Information Services of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

  Hospital Information Services, or HIS, is the arm of Jehovah's Witnesses' headquarters staff that coordinates communication between over 110,000 physicians worldwide. Some 1,600 subgroups termed "Hospital Liaison Committees," or HLCs, facilitate this communication on a local level. In this way premium nonblood medical management is made available to as many individuals as possible.

  SABM is dedicated to the advancement of optimal blood management in clinical practice through education, cooperation and research. Having these goals, SABM took the opportunity at its first annual event to recognize the work of HIS: "This group of individuals rapidly became one of the primary sources of information regarding transfusion alternatives to the medical community. Over the years, the HIS has provided collated books of medical literature, focused publications, videotaped presentations and support for conferences worldwide to all who have asked for help. Their tireless efforts have been accomplished with grace, dignity, respect for all and an overriding sense of the importance of human life."

  In view of the renewed concern over the transmission of disease, the constant threat of blood shortages and the increasing awareness of the value of respecting patient needs and rights , it is vital now more than ever to explore the simple, safe and effective alternatives to blood transfusion.
