Moon Halo's?

    Have you guys ever seen them around the sun?

    Yeah, they are pretty. My farmer grandparents called them moondogs and sundogs. There is an old wives tale connected with moondogs and the number of stars visible within it's circumfrence will tell you how many days before a storm.

    We see these frequently up in my neck of the woods (Alaska), and they are quite pretty. We are lucky enough to live in an area with lots of great things to watch in the sky. I've actually recently seen a setting sun with two large sun dogs on each side, almost like a partial rainbow around the sun. Also, the northern lights are fantastic and very visible in the remote area that we live. It's been my experience though, that the moon dog is a sure sign of cold and/or snowy weather. Gotta love those phenomena. Has anyone here ever seen the elusive Ball Lightning? I've seen it once, about 10 years ago from an airplane. Would have never believed it if I hadn't seen it myself...
