7 Not knowing the exact day of the end of this old system gives us the
opportunity to demonstrate that we serve God out of a pure motive. How so? It
may be that the end seems to be a long time in arriving. Sad to say, some
Christians who feel this way have allowed their zeal for Jehovah's service to
cool off. Yet, by our dedication, we have without reservation presented
ourselves to Jehovah to serve him. Those who know Jehovah realize that a
last-minute display of zeal will not impress him. He sees what is in the heart.
This was the paragraph that bothered me the most and Jgnat put into words the reason-
How many more destitute seniors is the society going to have in ten, twenty years?
It seems like yet again the society is having to let out the elastic on the waistband to accommodate the ever expanding gut of rhetoric regarding the "last hours" of this worlds existance. I've watched my Grandparents grow old in this "system" waiting for the end to come any day now. I have four lovely but mislead elderly family members that have no retirement but continue to hope that Jehovah will take care of everything before their options run out. In the meantime more articles like this are being put out telling them to hold on just a little longer.... the same ones since the turn of the century.
Our WT conductor is as old-school as old-school can get.
During one of the latter paragraphs, one of the ones about how all this stuff should be affecting our life, I was awakened out of my usual alpha-state trance by an unusual-even-for-him diatribe about how "This is really important! This should be affecting our lives! We should be worried about these things, not...(dramatic pause)...setting our VCRs to record a TV program while we are at the meeting or planning where we will go on vacation 10 months from now!!!"
Curiously, our PO has been openly stating his plans or a vacation about 10-12 months or so from now--he's planning a cruise & telling many about it, so "as many as want to can sign up to go on the same cruise".
I'm glad I wasn't sitting in the first few rows, I may have been covered by spittle & froth.
Blondie - your comments are extremely helpful! Thank you.
What you said about having a following at the hall and having people miss your comments rings true for me too. It seems ironic that doing research and trying to make a valuable contribution at the meeting can lead to questioning what is in the magazine and to a true "spiritual awakening"
The question was raised "who is supplying you with magazines?" This is valid as the rest of us are denied access to them without going to the Kingdom Hall.
I think that you are referring to the question that I posed to blondie last week. My exact words were:
Hey Blondie, where do you get your Watchtowers from?
Hey blondie, another nice write up again this week. This time I actually forced myself to read scan the entire article. LOL. Thanks again for the excellent work.
