Everyone,
It's actually, not my birthday...that was in August. I didn't realize how that sounded and now I can't go back and change the original post. But today I am 34. And two months and 28 days.
Soledad,
And how are things going with you? Are you back to work?
Yes, I'm back to working part-time with the designer. Things are going so much better! And we're both enjoying each other's company so much more now that she's properly medicated.
bikerchic,
It was Norman Vincent Peale's book "The Results of the Power of Positive Thinking". LOL yeah it was the book he wrote about the feed back he got on his best seller, "The Power of Positive Thinking"! Well I wasn't half way through the first book when I ordered the second one. This book became my Bible of choice for a very long time!
Thanks for the pointer. I'll take a look at those books!
LT,
Just wanted to clarify something for the folks back home:She's talking about the dog, not the husband there.
The soft fur of Henry's ears.
Ha. Ha. Thanks for the clarification.
I guess the point about my article was that WE HAVE THE POWER to change our lives. Too many of us say we can't do something because of our parents or our religious upbringing. Well we can. If we want to. Sometimes we need to be discerning about when to make those changes and how to go about them. But when it comes to being a positive person, we can change that immediately. Like luna2 said, do you want to be a person that has to be "managed"? The thought of other people "managing" me, like I have to manage my grandmother and dad, is an awful thought to me. I don't want other people to look at me the way I look at those two. Argggg!!!
One of the things I learned in Al-Anon years ago, was a little slogan "Fake it till you make it". Basically, that even when you don't feel like it, putting the smile on and pretending you're feeling well...can actually make you feel well. What a concept!
Thanks, Andi, for this most excellent post. I need to try this myself, yanno. I'd been wondering how to switch out negative thinking for positive thinking. Didn't know it would be this simple.
