You can be a Professor at a University but no higher Ed. for Jdubs WTH?

Anybody know about a brother H. Latchman in Fl. a JW elder was talking to me about him. He was so impressed with the fact that he was a

sub. C.O. the COBE at his hall and travels for the branch setting up the IT communications for the zone overseers meetings and get this

his day job Professor at a major University!

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems a tad hypocritical, how can this brother counsel a young brother or sister not to go to college because of the evil climate on campus and go to work the next day and teach "worldly" kids in that same environment?

I mentioned this to my Elder friend and he said Well.....that's not the same thing now is it? Wow talk about cognitive dissonance

1000% percent likelihood that said Prof is a convert. There's more than enough weird intellectual types in the world to go around, and JWism manages to snare its share of them. Plenty of evidence of that on this very site.

In the 90s when I was still in, a bro and his wife moved to the cong I attended. He was raised JW and was a WTSociety boy through and through, but at the same time he somehow had managed to attend business school, got an MBA, and was making bank at a local energy company. He quickly became the fugging DARLING of the congregation. Cognitive dissonance indeed...

Yeah---what an effective professor he must be! I can't even imagine being taught by a prof that secretly thinks I've made all the wrong choices for being in his class. I mean how does he encourage his students?

The most of them will say that he already went to college and recognizes the danger in "preaching" it now. Others (like my wife) will keep their head in the sand and deny that WTS is so strict as to say that people should not go to college, insisting that it is a personal choice but one with serious concerns about it.

I see little compliance with their NO-COLLEGE request. Oh sure, the elders might be afraid to officially support their child's college if it means being tossed from their assignment (which I would have gladly done in such a position- what a great way to remove yourself). But the non-elder families are sending their kids and the elders are unofficially often glad their child finds a way to go and slide some pocket money toward them.

I can personally say that I know Latchman, my engagement party was held in house inGainesville Florida, I know his wife and son who isncurrently on Brooklyn Bethel, he was raised as a Jehovahs Witness and attended a prestigious university in England. Last night alone I spoke to my cousin regarding this hypocrisy within the organization, how the young ones are encouraged to not get an education beyond the necessary, but they turn around and have doctors and lawyers in bethel. His response was that perhaps they were trained for that from within bethel. I laughed and said so if it benefits the organization its ok, but not if it benefits the individual. I told him it sounds like the pharisses who told everyone how to live but they themselves did not follow it. BTW this Latchman brother is extremely arrogant.

It's a case of where you are persecuted while you attend university, with insults for being "worldly" and "materialistic".

But if you're still a JW when you graduate, suddenly they change their tune like you've been lifelong friends. They want you to use your "worldly assets" for "kingdom interests."

What is his field? I can't grasp how he moves up in academia, makes politcal contacts to get ahead, publishes and then he shuts off his mind. The WT and education are like oil and vinegar. I see some attraction from his viewpoint. If he were Episcopal or Lutheran or something, he would one of hundreds of thousands professors. Imagine how he must be worshipped within JWs. It also shows how powerful denial can be.

I knew a lawyer who was very active in the Sierra Club and used the inside knowledge gained there to represent utilities. His inner circle knowledge garnered him huge bonuses. We all thought he was deceitful creep. He never acknowledged a conflict. The extra money was probably nice.

How do you go to faculty meetings and then go to KH? There must be vast cultural resources on campus and then he listens to KIngdom songs. This goes far beyond being a university student. He can't be true to either life. IMO. Humans can manage extraordinary complications. Losing your family and life long friends is an incentive to stay, too.

Yea but they use all the ppl who have their credentials before they get to the JWs...they promote them but.... they dont want any Jdubs to attempt to reach those pinnacles...no...

Absolutely tragic...for all our kids who had the potential ....disgraceful. Sickening.

They're like a moocher who looks down their nose at you when you want to go to college, start a business or better yourself in any way, but when you become established they're your best friend because you earn/have money, are educated and have a measure of worldly success, influence and power.

He is a professor in UF university of Florida gatortown. He is extremely used bt Bethel as a consultant for their IT work. He even has meetings with members of thr GB to run ideas past them regarding the technological advances of the org. His son is also in bethel working in the IT dept. Indeed extremely hypocritical.
