There's turmoil in my immediate future.

If this is correct, I am so screwed:

    http://futuretruth.wordpress.com/category/governing-body/

At latest round of meetings held by Circuit Overseers with the Congregation Elders, the Circuit Overseer quoted from the Society’s outline the following directive:

Any Elder or Ministerial Servant who encourages college for his kids or others, or who allows his children to go to college, will no longer qualify for these privileges within the Congregation.

So, there you have it. No college for the children of Elders and Ministerial Servants unless they intend to forego their positions.

My dad is an elder and I'm living at while attending college. You do the math. I have only two more semesters left before I graduate: next fall and next spring. I'm already in deep debt and leaving college before I get my degree will give me more debt. I've been secretly wanting to leave for some time and now I'm afraid I will have to put my foot down and tell my parents that I've had enough. My time to leave the organization might come sooner than I think and if so, with a drop out, drag out fight.

Words can't describe how scared and livid I feel.

I wouldn't panic just yet. I have seen alot of congs that just ignore things like this. Is your father a "company man"? How anal is the elder body in your hall? Sounds like alot of congs are pretty liberal now a days, you maybe ok.

mmmm...I have two brothers who are elders and my nephews go to college and I´ve never heard of this...so I would be skeptical....plus, this isn´t outright sin...I mean seems more like a conscience matter...There are alot of elders with kids in college. ALOT. all over the world. Just wouldn´t believe it yet unless a better source is quoted.

I hope this rumor is wrong, but I fear it might be right. The body of elders here are hardliners and I have no idea how my dad will react. I suspect this will cause a scandal in our congregation, especially when I tell them I'm not dropping out. Of course, it may be just be a rumor, but the CO is coming this week so, I'll find out soon enough.

    Cunningman,

I wouldn't rush into any decisions just yet. How about a "wait and see" attitude.

Things might not get as bad as you think.

I understand the tone of caution, but this scares the shit out of me. It sounds like the kind of thing they would do, especially after the recent "special day" assembly where college-bashing was the main theme. Remember last week's Watchtower? Thats why I'm affraid. It might be a rumor, but it's very plausible. Sure college isn't a disfellowshipping offense yet, but it's highly plausible that they'll do this. Nothing wrong with having a beard or married couples having oral sex, but those activities can get you removed from your position. Pessimism is the right attitude concerning the organization.

Casper, this might persuade you, but I desperately hope you're right. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/159645/1.ashx

I can certainly see your concern. I'm just saying to maybe calm down and take a deep breath ...

May I ask how old you are...? I realize you live at home and that is a consideration.

Others will be along shortly to offer you support and help you deal with this...

    Hang in there,
