Jehovah Witnesses Child Abuse Scandal in the News

    Added: (Thu Jul 28 2005)

It was a sad blow Friday July 15, 2005, when the majority of judges in an appeal hearing before the Supreme Court of New Hampshire ruled against continuing a case of child sexual abuse.

It represented a four year battle with hundreds of thousands of donated funds of Jehovah’s Witnesses be spent with law firms in the New Hampshire area to files numerous frivolous motions to prolong and run up costs on the civil case.

Jehovah’s Witness lawyers supported Paul Berry, a convicted child molester, by providing him with free legal assistance to protect his religious right from further convictions of child sexual abuse.

While victims and advocates sat on one side of the court room, Jehovah’s Witness attorneys sat with Paul Berry and offered testimony in his behalf to protect him from further criminal prosecution.

Paul Berry remains a Jehovah’s Witness in good standing and upon his release from prison will be required to make visits to the homes of the public to start bible studies (will he be knocking on your door?)

It is estimated that well over $500,000 has been spent in donated funds of Jehovah’s Witnesses for the legal defense of Paul Berry.

There is a popular saying in the Christian world, “What would Jesus do?”

The idea being in conducting oneself as a Christian one would use Christ as an example to determine the best behavior. Could any person that claims to follow Christ envision a courtroom with Christ supporting the rights of a convicted child molester using funds donated to his ministry to the detriment of victims?

Could we picture Christ and his disciples sitting in a courtroom to support a child molester at his sentencing hearing while ignoring the victim? Jehovah’s Witnesses seem to take pride in making this a practice.

Sorry to say, Bill Bowen might get the public support but the courts always seem to favor the Witnesses.

I feel that the courts dislike stepping on the toes of religious expression. This is a free liscence to commit crimes. $500,000 dollars? They're the freakin mob.

The courts seem to favor the religious institutions in general. Read Marci Hamilton's comments on findlaw re the Berry case and the Catholic Church.

This is not just the WTS folks. The courts are ruling based on the first amendment. SNAP has had some success in gaining some money due to pedophile priests being found guilty but I do not think the Catholic Church has been found responsible in the courts, yet.

I'm no lawyer, but it helps to realize that if the law protecting one religion from legal responsibility is changed, all religions will become responsible.

    Arrgghhh!

I've asked before, but is this Paul Berry originally from Moncton, New Brunswick? Does anyone know? I only ask because there were 10 kids in the family, the name fits, the age is right, and I knew several of them WELL.

If either one of you young women are reading, my heart goes out to you.

    thanks, everyone

As they should be. No one's religion should hold them exempt from responsibility for this atrocity.

Well we now know where the Tsunami donations the society collected went to.

    I hate this cult.
