If you do chose to stay a home and "obide by the rules" so to speak, just make sure that you have classes or study groups on "certain" nights of the week and Sunday afternoons! :-)

    My advice?

Schooling is a must. Do whatever you have to, in order to make life as easy as possible, so you can go to school.

You are still very young, and though I am sure you hate hearing that, it means that you have your whole life ahead of you, and it will be a very good one provided you do the right thing now, which is to further your education.

Do some make it on their own, and then go to school at the same time? Sure, but the success rate is very low, and only the strongest will make it.

Take advantage of being at home while at school, and then the options will come before you. Apply yourself, and the world is yours.

OK what if I do say I have to study or something and that happens to fall on meeting nights too much. Then theyll say I cant go to college anymore if I keep doing that? What do I do then?

The teacher is female by the way.

And I'm really hating my hair right now. I get pissed off at everything when I look at the mirror.

I'm sad because my prom date has a crush on someone else. And I dont get much attention from her.

I'm sad because I feel fat.

WOW!! What tremendous response you have received here. I am impressed!!

Can you feel the depth of respect, concern and thoughtfulness in each posting? I think this is one of those threads that should be marked for future reference. I hope you mark it yourself and re-read each post in a few days. I think each time you do you will gain a little more clarity of thought to help you make good decisions for yourself.

Cross that bridge when you get to it.
First things first: Get yourself to school. Find a seat and park it there. Do your studies diligently. Be an active, respectful participant. If you at that time you find that you really are getting too much flak from parents, you will already be matriculated and in a better position to stay in school. There are counselors and advisors to help you stay in. I am confident that they will be extremely informative and supportive once you show them how dedicated you are to your education. If you are a serious student, you will be taken seriously.
As another poster noted that, once you are there, you will meet other students who can help you along too. Someone else here said that as witnesses we are taught to not trust our own abilities (or something like that) and to be dependent on others. So True!! Don't kid yourself, it's not an easy ride to attend college and/or support yourself. But it's not all that difficult either. And it's so strengthening to your sense of self. Each week can bring a huge sense of personal accomplishment.
The teacher is female by the way.
Single? Lives alone?? Under 60??? Obviously most of us will have guarded concerns with this. Maybe needs a little more discussion. Maybe you don't need to seriously consider this option just now...???
And I'm really hating my hair right now. I get pissed off at everything when I look at the mirror.
I hate to sound flippant, but... It will grow back. or you could cut it shorter.
I know. I know. It's the prom and the end of your senior year.
For your own sanity (and everyone else's), you need to find a good, proper outlet for your pissiness. A good run works for many of us. (It will help with the 'feeling fat' part too.)
I'm sad because my prom date has a crush on someone else. And I dont get much attention from her.
Not much consolation, but I would venture to guess that most of us here that were raised as witnesses weren't allowed to attend our proms. Sometimes it just plain sucks to be a teen. This, too, will pass.
Perhaps others will have better advice for you on the last few points.
I'm still harboring a little bit of resentment over that myself so not much help here...!!!
Be sane. Be honest. Be kind. If you do, YOU will benefit the most.

PS: I hope you keep this thread going. There's some great, balanced advice here.

Just wanted to add one more thing--I am impressed that you are willing to listen to some of us old fogeys! We were young once believe it or not.

I know you are sad your prom date doesn't like you, but you will find love when you least expect it and probably when you aren't looking for it. College will be a great opportunity to meet new friends. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Wish I could be your age again and re-do some things.

So I dont have to go to meetings anymore, after may 1st and they arent going to control my life. But freedom comes at a price. Ill have to pay my bills which come out to be $440 per month until July, after July it will be $500 a month not including college. Ill have to support most of the finances for college by myself. College will cost about $20,000 including dorms. I will also need to pay $500 per month in college not cluding college expenses. If I go to the meetings sometimes, my dad will help out.

    Hi Tsu -

17 is just plain tough but you can get thru this. Billions before you have already succeeded!!

Ill have to pay my bills which come out to be $440 per month

I'm curious what sort of expenses you would have that would total $440 per month...

    College will cost about $20,000.

I assume that is for a year and includes living expenses like room and food?

    -Aude.

    $440

    $25 internet

    $40 cell phone

    $10 phone line

    $325 for car insurance

    thats $440.

$20,000 is a nice estimate for the college year including housing and food.

Ive applied FAFSA, still waiting for the results. Ive applied for tons of scholarships. Only got back on 1 and i didnt get it.

I'm scared what if I dont have enough money while I'm in college, what am I going to do? I can always join the military I guess.

For this summer I plan on working full time at my dad's restaurant to earn atleast $500 a month, june and july, saving the left overs. When I go into college, I hope to get settled into financial aid somehow, i dont know how thats going to work. But I will probably get a job on campus.

Dorms will be $1800 per year.
