How Do You Cope With Stress?

    Well?

I have a hard time coping with it, seeing as I have an anxiety disorder.

How do you not think of things like work, relationships, money, getting a cat, etc. etc. etc. etc. without freaking out?

I am very interested to hear some replies that can hopefully help me out here. NO matter how good things are I still worry to death about, sometimes nothing, sometimes things that I should not.

    Case in point:

I am quitting my job. I know that my boss is going to be PISSED OFF because I am only giving one weeks notice. It is all that I need to give up here where I live. If they fire me, they only need to pay me one weeks severance, and if I quit, I only need to give one weeks notice.

But I know that they are going to be pissed. Actually, freaking out, because they have no staff. But it isn't my problem! I only make a shitty wage and am a pee-on. The FOM has a panic disorder and is dislexic... she was on stress leave for 3 months, LOL! Well, this person needs to do something fast; something that she is not good at. The GM is gone...

Why am I worrying so much about this? Should I worry about this? GRRRR.... I just don't want to give the "customary" two weeks, because I have to work at my real job... the one that pays 2.5 times better. I am not working for a shit wage for an extra week just because they want me to, and they think that it's "morally right" to do so, LOL! It's two weeks notice after one year, not after 4 months.

I dunno... am I making too much out of this?

I have tons of other worries, and it's driving me nuts.

If you have nothing to say, at least make me laugh.

Gumby, what would you say to my boss if they wanted you to work an extra week at a shit wage? C['mon! I need a laugh.

I am a worrywart; I even make myself sick with worry. I found a woman who talks about stress. I quote her from time to time. She is hilarious but helpul. I get her stuff from the library but I have one video and book for those unexpected anxious moments when the library is closed.

Thanks for the reply, Blondie. I am checking out the link right now.

Maybe we should start a thread and list our worries and have others analyze why we are worried and kick us in the pants.

Even as I type this, my stomach is aching.

I dunno... it just seems as if everything is not enough sometimes. Dumb jobs suck.

I also have an anxiety disorder. And have fought it and dealt with it for many years.I have had some relief from strenious exercise.

Also have found a support group helpful. But several years ago the doctor because of my extreme anxiety put me on anti depressants.I had tried them in the past and didnt like them at all.But needless to say this time they worked.

Not that I feel antidepressants are the best way to deal with these things. But for me it turned down the constant mind chatter of worry to something tolerable.

I feel a much happier person which i didnt expect and Damn if i dont enjoy my life now.

    kat2u,

What AD's are you on? I'm on Paxil... I dropped my dose, and this could be one of the problems. More likely not, though. I haven't felt an increase since dropping it down to 15mg/day from 30.

Meds suck. But I am shopping for more "brain candy".. one that may actually work. Paxil sucks.

Shamus, you can only control yourself. You can't control how they react. Once you think of it that way, and if they freak out on you, remind them, "I am sorry, but I have to support myself and had to do the best thing for my situation. I cannnot control you or your situation. I am sorry."

My dad used to say us, "Remember the motorboat."

What he meant was ........... if you are on a motorboat, you have 2 places to sit. In the seat facing forward, driving the boat. Or on a seat facing the rear.

Facing forward driving: you are in control. You can change directions. The lake looks peaceful. You feel the wind on your face, its exciting. You see the open space ahead. You can adjust your course for islands in the way or other people. YOu have time to decide where you are going.

Facing backwards: you look at where you have been. You see the turmoil that the engine motor is causing behind you. (lots of power boats generate that big rooster tail of water out the engine.....) You see the wake of the water .......... it is disturbing that peaceful lake. You cannot steer your course, you cannot see where you are going. You hair is being blown over your face (sorry, dad had girls).

Anyway...........its up to us.......we can look forward with control, or look behind us at the turmoil, look at the problem or look to the future.

Shamus, my husband and I are faders, it's own stress. His job was eliminated last year, fortunately he bumped into a new one after 3 months. Then he had a heart attack. Then he improved and my job was eliminated. I am currently looking for a job. I have a few months. But then one of my husband's family just found out that they have cancer, and were sent home to die (6 months). They aren't even 60 yet. So I'm thinking, I'm losing my job not my life. It has adjusted me. I still have my loving husband next to me too.

I found that I get bad when I focus on what is wrong, not what is right. Hugs help too. Is there anyone around you enjoy being with, that brings a smile to your face. It doesn't have to be a person, a loved pet can help with stress. Proven scientifically too.

    ((((hugs))) from afar

I don't cope with stress. I eliminate the cause of the stress.
