I have just finished reading Watchtower of Aug 15th 1968.( I was still there then) I couldnt believe what I'm reading & I qoute
"Are we to assume from this study that the battle of Armageddon will be over by the autumn of 1975 & the longed looked for thousand year reign of Christ will begin by then? Why not? Because after his creation Adam lived sometime during the "sixth day" which unknown amount of time would need to be subtracted from Adams 930 years ,to determine when the sixth seven-thousand year period or "day" ended
& how long Adam lived into the' seventh day' And yet the end of the
sixth creative 'day' could end within the same Gregorian calendar year of Adams creation .IT MAY INVOLVE ONLY A DIFFERANCE OF WEEKS OR MONTHS ,NOT YEARS,
eXCUSE ME? Did I miss something????

God has an organization that he utilizes to communicate with mankind.
God allows that organization to make mistakes to test mankind's faith.

    Its a brilliant plan.

Only God could have thought of it.

I'll just have to point that out to my wife the very next time she says that the society NEVER said that the end would come in 1975.

Thats the exact same thing I showed my wife a while back. She insisted that the society never claimed that the end would come in 1975. I agreed with her and then said but they did say it would come at least before 1976 was out and then I showed her that article.

She could'nt come up with a defense after that. Instead she asked me why was I looking for mistakes that the WTS had made.

Classic "if you don't like the message shoot the messenger" logic. They're incapable of acknowledging fault with the WT so there's something wrong with you. It's either that or just explained away as "new Light" or you're "running ahead". JW's are very good at that.

Nowadays the Society really tries to downplay 1975; actually - they started downplaying their role in it when 1976 arrived...but Headquarters has managed to keep the rank & file convinced that the whole 1975 thing was due to a few bros reading *too much* into the significance of 1975. And it's true, you can bring up 1975 with any loyal dub who went through that and yet today they will tell you that all the hype was due to a few who got a little carried away. Pure MIND CONTROL...

As I recall, JWs never had ANY thoughts about 1975 until this "new light" was revealed to us by the Society. WT quotes like the one above were the major impetus driving 1975. From the mid-late 60's to the end of 1975 the Society regularly fed the flock all these little tidbits re 1975, always careful never to fix an exact date for an absolute certainty, but worded in such a way to make the rank & file believe that if it didn't happen by 1975 it would more than likely be within the decade. The point was they had everyone thinking the big A was imminent, which is what they still think - only back then they had an actual date to dangle in front of the bros, which added a greater than usual "sense of urgency".

They never said anything about 1975!

It's an apostate plot. Those Watchtowers
(all 6 million of 'em!) were printed especially by apostates to mislead everyone. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=4975&site=3

The whole thing was like a runaway train that no one
desired to stop. People sold homes, put off medical
and dental care and missed further education.

I didn't buy into it though, I kept remembering Jesus'
words: "No one knows the day or the hour".

What about this one then, from their "Is This Life All There Is?"
    .p46 1974 ed
"It is obvious that the true God,who is himself'the God of truth"& who hates lies, will not look with favor on persons who cling to organizations that teach falsehood.( Psalm 31:5) Proverbs 6:16-19 Rev 21:8 And,really WOULD YOU WANT TO BE EVEN ASSOCIATED WITH A RELIGION THAT HAD NOT BE HONEST WITH YOU?"
Flower I want to laugh- I dont know any novel who makes me laugh as much as the stuff I am reading in the "good old oldies" I feel like I am in a twilight zone.
