In the area I live hunting and fishing are big sports. Quite a few of the brothers hunt. They keep it under the radar, though.

    WHat about you're area?

There was a brother in our kh who was a keen fisherman when he came in, and he was counselled to stop, which he did.

He's left now and, as far as I know, fishing again.

I know of a couple of hunters, but they don't like to advertise it. Too bad that so many don't agree with it, they are missing out on some great venison!!

I don't think fishing has ever really come up, I know quite a few fishermen (and women), unless you are doing it on Saturday mornings and missing service, or Sunday morning and missing the meetings.

Pine City, Minnesota is the congregation I was raised in. Many of it's members enjoy hunting and fishing. It's a very popular sport in the midwest.

It wasn't forbidden at our congregation, nor did those involved try and hide it. In fact, some of my elder relatives that hunted would regularly miss sunday meetings during

    the deer hunting season.

In my congregation, it seemed like everyone hunted or used to hunt.

But the topic was always changed when it was brought up.

    Fishing was openly accepted.

Was gold prospecting frowned upon as a hobby?

No big deal around here...hunting and fishing is big business. Locals don't hunt for sport but really eat what they catch or shoot. They did think it was tacky to miss the CO's visit and the circuit assembly when the CO had the bad sense to schedule them during deer season. Can you imagine, out of 5 elders on the BOE, 3 went hunting instead of being around for the CO's visit! That made the local needs talk at the circuit assembly. The CO learned though not to schedule it then again.

    Hunting was taboo.
    Fishing was acceptable.

    one cong nearby:
hunting was accepted by some pushy loud people - hence the rest of the cong did not mind
    fishing too was acceptable

Mate of mine, (Elder in a central North Island cong.) and his father were keen hunters. Got told that hunting for sport would disqualify him for 'priveleges'.

And everybody fishes. No problem. The oceans and rivers are infested with fish.
