  Well, you've all been following Nosferatu's thread about the Nigerian scammer. Now it's my turn! A short while ago, I received the following email:

  Dear friend,

  It is with heartfelt hope that I write to seek your co-operation and assistance in the context stated below: May I first introduce myself: I am Senator Luisa Pimentel Estrada,the first wife of Joseph Ejercito Estrada(former head of state and President of Philippines) who is presently held in detention in a hospital outside manilla,Philippines. I got your contact from the internet during the course of my search for a reliable foreigner who will assist me in receiving the sum of US$17Million secretly deposited in my favour by my Husband.

  This money was kept with a Security Company in Amsterdam and I have all documents with me as of when it was deposited in a Security Vault for safe keeping. We have been deliberating on how to invest this fund abroad in a confidential manner until we came to a conclusion to use it to buy estates and part of it will be used for non-speculative investments in your country.

  However,the current administration of Gloria Arroyo(The President of Philippines) is seeking the death of my husband.In pursuit of this vendetta,the present Government have resolved to freeze all known assets of Joseph Ejercito Estrada including properties at home and abroad and are presently embarking on to seize the various bank accounts of my Husband in Switzerland,UK and Australia. In fact, the attack on our family (The Estrada's) is so devastated to an extent of seizing our travelling passport,family accounts,trying some members of our family in court for offences allegedly committed by my Husband and even restrict us from seeing my husband.

  We are not ready to comply to this as most of the family assets and bank accounts abroad have been Frozen by the Arroyo regime. In view of this grevious threat to our Economic and personal survival, our family trustee have secretly protected the deposit, you are to assits us travelling to Amsterdam to lay claims of the consignment with the aid of all legal documents that will be forwarded to you as time goes on.

  In the meantime,there is a travelling embargo on the family members and our local accounts are seized as well as our telephone lines have been bugged.For this reason,telephone conversation will not be an ideal means of communication because our calls will be recorded. We are currently being catered for by the Government of Philippines in other to monitor and control our financial activities.we cannot be held responsible for the sins of my Husband. In view of this plight, I expect you to be trustworthy and kind enough to respond to this distressed call to save our family from a hopeless future.And if you agree to help, we shall discuss the disbursement ratio in our next correspondence after we have been acquainted.

  I look forward to your quick response while thanking you for your co-operation. In view of all above details, I request you to keep this letter and co-operation highly confidential even if you are not interested.

  NB: Please note that email correspondence will be safer due to the fact that all our phone lines have been bugged.

  The first thing I did was trace the IP code to see if it was truly coming from the Philippines or not. As expected, it was not. The email was sent from Israel. I then created a fellow named "Seymour Butz" (Thank you Bart Simpson!) who has sent the following reply:

  Dear Senator Estrada,

  I am grateful that you took the time to send me correspondence regarding your plight. However, I am not sure why you have contacted me? As far as I know, I have no ties to anyone in the Philippines, so I am curious how you may know of me?

  I am a frequent traveler to Europe, in that I am an importer of fine European meat products. My heart goes out to you and your family in these troubled times. Is there a way that I may be of further assistance?

  Of course, I would not wish to engage in any illegal activity, so I must have proof that what you would have me do to assist would be completely legal. Since you are a Senator, I am quite confident that you will be able to provide this.

  What is the "disbursement ratio" that you speak of? Are you saying that I would receive compensation for assisting you and your family?

  As soon as I have had your favorable reply, I will respond with further details about myself and my family as you have requested. I trust that you shall keep all correspondence between our goodselves strictly confidential.

  I have not had any emails lately from those idiots, but if I ever do, I would gladly put them on a journey they would never forget... noferatsu, though, has the wit of a comedian, and came up with stuff that I would never have thought of in years, LOL!

  Well folks, I got a bite! Here is the message I received this morning:

  Mr Seymour Butz,
  Thank you very much for your response to my proposal, i also believe that you have perused through my mail to you, it was clearly stated that you assistance is needed in going to Amsterdam to recieve this consignment from the security company,you have to be rest assured that all modalities have been put in place to ensure the smooth running of this transaction, all you have to follow instructions carefully at this point in time.

  I seek you assistance also because i donnot want any trace to show in Philippines as the Government of philippines as well as the PCGG are fighting tooth and nail to see that all monetary belongings of my huysband are enpounded, as such i will want to invest the funds in any profitable venture in your country and you will serve as a consulatant to this effect.

  You are also to be carefull because you may receive simillar proposal from imposters i will advise you ingnore such mails .
  I am offering you 25% of the total sum and 5% will be set aside for all expenses incured during the course of this transaction and the balance of 70% will be for me and my family. All legal documents will be forwarded to you with time, i will make you a beneficiary of this funds and also funish the company with your contact details so that they can reach you and tell you how much specifically you are to carry along with you to Amsterdam.
  A letter of approval will be sent to the security company here in Philippines where the consignment was deposited after your Details have been received and will be issued to their branch in Amsterdam, where the consignment is now for them to release the consignment to you as soon as we arrange for a change of beneficiary to your name this will take about three working days before it will be carefully screened and approved.
  Once all neccesary documents are forwarded to you i shall intimate the security company of your willingness to assist me to this effect. The security company shall then contact you and give you an invitation to come over to netherland with all necessary documents and to sign for the release of the consignment to you after which you shall return back to your country where you shall invest my share of the funds for me in your name and in any profitable venture in your country.

  You have to note that this transaction is all i have got to make a life for me and my family, all we spend is on the Government and all our accounts are beign monitored by them too.

  Thank you very much for your kindly reply. Frankly, I never expected that you would be so generous as to offer me 25% of the total sum! This is a very fortunate event for me. You see, I am in dire need of additional money for medical treatment of my two sons. Let me explain. Several months ago, I took my family on vacation to the Hawaiian Islands. We stayed at the Kalaupapa Super 8 Motel on the island of Molokai. Little did I know that our hotel was located next to the infamous Kalaupapa leper colony! My two teenaged sons wandered off the hotel grounds one day and interacted with some of the leper colony's residents. After we returned home to California, both of my sons contracted leprosy! We keep them quarantined in the basement of our house, as none of the local hospitals will treat them there for fear of contamination to the other patients. Our medical insurance coverage does not allow for the treatment of leprosy, so we are in dire need of money to cure my boys, Red and Smokey. Otherwise, we will have no choice but to hire a small foreign whaling ship to take them back to Hawaii, where they will live out their days at the leper colony. In the mean time, we have horrible religious neighbors who shout "Unclean!" every time they walk past our house. So you see, it is of great importance to me that I find a means to get additional money. If it will help you in the process, all the better.

  I discussed this matter with my wife Rosie, but she is skeptical. She is afraid that if I fly to Amsterdam, I may be placed in danger. I have a business trip to Scotland scheduled within the next few weeks to bring back Christmas Haggis for the local grocery stores here.   I am attaching a copy of the scanned drivers license I plan to send her (if my wife gives me permission....LOL!) The photo on the drivers license is of Schuyler Colfax, who was Abraham Lincoln's first vice president. The address I've given to the "Senator" is the mailing address of the Sacramento Bee, the local newspaper. If they mail any of these phony documents there, I'm sure the press will have a field day with them! Oh, by the way, there actually is a company called Cockburn's of Dingwall that manufactures haggis. I found it on the internet & thought it was the perfect name of a company that Seymour Butz should work for.
