Changes in the DANIEL'S PROPHECY book

  I have been told that a number of changes has been made to the Daniel's Prophecy book between the first edition (or printing) and the latest edition of it. The funny thing is that these changes are inconsistent among the media (paper book and editions of the WT Lib CD).

  So, if you get the Daniel's Prophecy book you have in your home and compare it to WT Lib CD 2004, you will only be able to confirm some of these changes. Below are all the changes, of which I was able to verify only cases 1 (against a scan of the latest edition), case 2 (against the CD) and case 4 (against the CD).

  (The other changes I couldn't verify because I don't have the "first printing" of the book)

  Admitedly some changes aren't relevant, but most are; so, I'm listing all of them to see what you folks out there can make of them.

  As usual, it seems that the WT has introduced those changes quietly, as I don't recall seeing any official notification. Anyways... Enjoy!

  CASE 1: p. 101, line 1:
  1st printing: "in over a thousand years."
  Later editions: "in over a hundred years."

  CASE 2: p. 151 picture caption:
  1st printing: "Bas-relief at Pasargadae, depicting Cyrus"
  Later editions: "Bas-relief at Cyrus' palace in Pasargadae"

  CASE 3: p. 179, box, line 7:
  1st printing: "came forth from the four"
  Later editions: "came forth from one of the four"

  CASE 4: p. 195, par. 27, lines 6, 7
  1st printing: "Father. That sacrifice anointed"
  Later editions: "Father. Jesus' baptism, in 29 C.E., had anointed"

  CASE 5: p. 247, par. 27, line 2
  1st printing: "that Great Britain"
  Later editions: "that Britain"

  CASE 6: p. 275, par. 10, lines 4-6
  1st printing: "However, the Aramaic equivalent of the word here translated "until" appears in the Aramaic text of Dan 7:25 and there means "during" or "for." Hence..."
  Later editions: "However, the cleansing and whitening of God’s people as a result of the intrusion from the king of the north was “for the time appointed.” Hence..."

  1st printing: "at "the time appointed" by"

  The Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy book I have is the first printing:

  Page 101, Line 1 reads: "in over a thousand years"

  Page 151, Picture caption reads: "Bas-relief at Pasargadae, depicting Cyrus"

  Page 179, Box, Line 7 reads: "the small horn that came forth from one of the four horns?"

  Page 195, Par. 27, Lines 6,7 reads: "That sacrifice annointed, or set apart,"

  Page 247, Par. 27, Line 2, reads: "that Britain"

  Page 275, Par. 10, Lines 4-6 reads: "However, the Aramaic equivalent of the word here translated "until" appears in the Aramaic text of Daniel 7:25 and there means "during" or "for." Hence,..."

  Page 275, Par. 10, Lines 10, 11 reads: "at "the time appointed" by"

  I don't have any later editions with which to compare these to, though.

  I thought I had the first printing too - since I got my book at the convention.
  
  Given what you said about case 5, I believe that what you have is most likely not the "first printing" referred to in the list.

  The change at page 275, "Aramaic" etc was done at once, so the original text only appears in the convention release, and was changed before the shipment came to the congregations. I never understood the change, because the original sentence and the changed one have nothing to do with each other, they are totally different. Much like in Russia after Stalin died, and there was a long article in the Great Soviet Encyclopaedia on Berija, the chief of the secret police. When he was shot soon afterwards, the subscribers received by mail a matching article on Berlin, which was to be glued over the original Berija-article.

  If I understand this correctly, there are two printings of the Daniel book (or two versions). The first release was distributed at the District Conventions and then modified prior to being sent to the congregations.

  Since, Observador, you received your book at a convention but still seem to have the second version perhaps you went to a convention late enough in the cycle that the modified book was passed out and the first version was no longer in use.

  I will check my copy later. I went to a fairly early convention in the Daniel year.

  My copy came from a fairly early convention (New England) and I am finding a mix of what you describe as "1st printing" and "later editions" renderings. In my copy, cases 1, 2 and 4 use the "1st printing" wording that you describe, and cases 3 and 5-8 use the "later editions" rendering. Not sure what all this means, if anything. Perhaps some last minute proofreading?

  I know; this is really confusing and took me a while to make any sense of it. The list above is as my source sent me.

  It's unclear to me the time of what the list calls "first printing", since this information is never printed in the book.

  Sleight of hand is one of the techniques used by the WTS - again the R&F aren't aware of the deception.

  Just to confuse matters even more, my copy has the earlier version of case 1 and 2 and the rest of the cases are the later version.

  The full sentence of case 1 reads:

  'No enemy had taken Babylon by storm in over a thousand years'
