Idyllic paradise breeds idiots

Obstacles that we face in life have a tendency to relly get our attention, and tax our knowledge, and wisdom to overcome them. When we're faced with problems we have to figure out solutions. No problems,, no need for solutions.

Evolution, the survival of the fittest, or perhaps sometimes survival of the smartest,, this has to be the force behind the development of the greater human brain apart from other animals. As our ancestors evolved,, the dumber ones,, had fewer opportunities for sex(procreation),, perhaps through not being smart enough,, or not living long enough.

That's why I think, that an idyllic paradise would breed dummies. If everything were pain free, and trouble-free,, consciousness of the human race would atrophy,, because conflict would be absent,, with all our needs met there would be no need to struggle.

If there was no evil there would be no good,,these two opposites need to the exist to define the other. Without no evil there would be no good without Evil there would be no struggle without evil Consciousness would atrophy in human race.

Is a man born with one arm in order to make me grateful that I have two?

Is the man born deaf to make me grateful that I can hear?

Is the man born lame to make me grateful that I can walk?

Is the man born blind to make me grateful that I can see?

Is the starving person necessary to make me grateful that I have material goods?

Is the homeless person necessary to make me grateful that I have a place to stay?

Is a person born in poverty in order to make me grateful that I am not?.

The answer to all your question is No. But what was the piont you are trying to make?

I can think of only one thing worse than living under zero-stress, zero-thinking "paradise" conditions:

Living in Paradise surrounded only by Watchtower drones.

It's a good thing I don't believe in Hell, because if it did exist, the above is exactly what they would have lined up for me!

I think you are wrong the paradise is not ery idyllic. You have limted natural resourced and a growing population that will never die. THe only thing that will replace biological evolution is etheical/ moral evolution. Where Gods random purges of dissenters becomes mans apex predator. So theocracy will become the new trait that determines fit or unfit. Ofcoarse you have to read a lot of watchtowers to understand this.

At first I thought I agreed with Frankie, although XQs made somewhat of a point, too, in spite of mentioning WT jargon. This is a great question for debate, one that I personally have never considered.

Casting aside the "theocratic" angle, imagine humans living under these idyllic conditions. Would the human consciousness atrophy without any challenges? Or would we evolve at a much faster rate because of the lack of obstacles, i.e. survival issues, jealousy, grief, etc.

Thanks for the brain food, Frankiespeakin.

    Frankie,

I was thinking of your last paragraph: if there was no evil there would be no good. So I was wondering if it is evil if a person is born deaf, blind, lame, poor, etc. and if it is good if one is born other. Most of us think of ourselves as "whole," whereas there is something lacking in those with "deformities." If the purpose of being born deaf, blind, lame, poor, etc. is not meant for those born other to be grateful, than what is the purpose? What is evil and what is good?

    Leo,

(Spock's voice) "It life Jim,, but, not as we know it"

    XQ,

Yes, your right about paradise,,my Idyllic paradise is purely hypothetical,,along the lines of JW teaching.

    NL,

That's the point of this thread to debate the whether or not human consciousness would atrophy.

    Ken,

What is evil and what is good?

Yes,, good question,,well since it is a human term,,humans define it,,since it is not objective, but subjective the catagory will change from one human to another.

    Quotes,

Living in Paradise surrounded only by Watchtower drones.
Yes,, this is one thought that alway took away the appeal of paradise from the first year I became a JW.

A good read on the mythical "spiritual paradise" of the future JWs.

http://dannyhaszard.com/bangornews.htm Joe Rutherford dumped holidays, birthdays and the 1874 date for the invisible return on Christ, and invented an ?earthly class? of Witnesses, since only 144,000 can go to heaven in their teaching. The rest, meaning all 99.9% of Witnesses still alive, will live forever on a cleansed earth, under the rule of the Watchtower leaders in heaven, who will keep them in line by local elders known as ?Princes.? Well after the clean up of 6 billion bodies ( birds feast first, then jehover uses 'holy anti-matter' for the final rinse, followed by 7 years of 'bone raking detail ) Then it's party time with 'detox Joe running the show' Party Smileys
