"Beware the Voice of the WTS"

I've been thinking about the part at the DC on "Beware the Voice of Strangers". They mention three areas to watch: Any dissenting talk against the organization, the Internet and the media(as in newspapers, news-shows on TV, etc.). There's been quite a bit of talk already on this board about the Internet part of the talk. To me, that was expected and unsurprising, though filled with propoganda and paranoia.

The part that really surprised me was the part on the media. The audience was admonished to be wary of the media. The media has an agenda, the media mis-qoutes, the media misrepresents and the media tells half-truths. An example was given of how a story changes over the course of several days, so therefore how do we know what the real story is? A cursory glance of a couple of headlines or stories will not tell us the whole story or give us definitive facts. Now, the more I think about it, the more I have to ask, who should know better than the WTS about half-truths, mis-qoutes and misrepresentations? They are the masters. If we can't trust the media because they wittingly or unwittingly do all these things, then can we trust the WTS? If you research their material, you will find the same thing. A modern WT will claim that as early as 1880, the WT warned of the trouble to descend on the world in 1914. That same modern WT claims that Jesus returned in 1914 and the Gentile Times ended then and Armaggedon is due anytime. If you look at that 1880 WT you will see that, yes, they did mention the trouble the world would see in 1914; that Armaggedon would start then. That 1880 WT claims that Jesus had already arrived in 1874. A mis-qoute, a misrepresentation of facts and a half-truth is present in the modern WT. An agenda is also present in the modern WT; to fool people into believing that JWs are the only true religion(or to get money or both). The WTS is no better than the media that they have slammed at all the District Conventions this year. Yet they put themselves on this pedestal as God's earthly, righteous, organization, publishing and preaching the good news of God's Kingdom. The media, despite it's faults has never done that. So who is more guilty?

Undercover, you touched on just a few, there are so many "misquotes" and "we never said that."

The medis today is so advanced compared to previous generations. Look at the Iraq War, turn on your TV and you can watch it daily from the BATTLEFIELD. Information travels so fast today, it's almost scary. Their quotes regarding the media, is to cover their ass regarding so many sex abuse charges and scandals (UN) that are coming out.

I talked to my family recently and NONE claimed to have heard about the UN scandal.

I have said a kazillion times, all you have to do is read the history of the watchtower and any normal human who can think would run away from it.

One of my favorites is the 1973 Kingdom Ministry that stated "What would the purpose be of advancing in a career which will take 8-10 years when Armageddon will be here by then. Many brothers and sisters have quit their jobs and sold their homes to spend the last days out in the field service. What a fine example they are."

And another one is "It is very unlikely we will see the 21st Century" quoted from the Watchtower in 1989.

    The Watchtower is SCARED.

The internet has TOO MUCH info for them to keep up with. Their was a time when their was NO INFO on Russel/Rutherford/Knorr to read about, only what the Watchtower told us. NOW their whole history is plastered on so many sites. All you have to do is read it and you realize what a FARCE the whole thing is.

There are very few "new ones" coming in and the younger generation of JW's is getting smaller.

The Watchtower is afraid, very afraid.

Never thought I would see the day.

I get to have the privilege of going next weekend to hear all this garbage wonderful spiritual food. While they are mentioning those that talk against the organization, I'm sure that I'll be getting lots of sideways glances from my hubby to see my reaction to what is being said. I just hope that I can keep a straight face.

Thanks to all of you that have given your assembly report, at least I know what to expect.

"It is very unlikely we will see the 21st Century"

That is a priceless quote! Where is it to be found? Is it on the WT Library CD?

I went to the Assembly (AHHH!) to hear this "Beware of the Voice of Strangers" Talk.

Well, I went on Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon.

Here are some interesting things from the Friday and Saturday Assembly Talks:

The Jehovah's Witnesses claim to be "Christians". But, the whole Friday afternoon, I only heard them mention Jesus 5 times. FIVE TIMES! Sheesh.

On Friday, they were discussing Amos' prophecies. This got very interesting.

The speakers kept saying several times that BETHEL WAS THE CENTER OF FALSE RELIGION FOR ISRAEL! The speakers said that about 5 times during the Talks about Amos.

They went on to talk about how golden calves were worshiped at BETHEL!

Then, the speakers said, about 5 times, that Jehovah condemned the Israelites in Amos' time because fathers and sons were having sex with the same GIRL, and the Judges of Israel were being bribed to cover this up.

Also, on Friday afternoon, they said about 3 or 4 times, that Jehovah's Witnesses should be "cheerful givers" and share their money with the Watchtower Society.

Then they released the "See the Good Land" Map Book (which is probably the best Book the Society has ever put out, because it is only a Book of Maps!)

On Saturday afternoon, they said about 5 times that JW's should be "cheerful givers" and share their money with the Watchtower Society.

I thought the Watchtower Society has always bragged about not requesting donations during Meetings like other churches do?

Then came the "Beware of the Voice of Strangers" Talk, given by a local Circuit Overseer:

I really did like the Scriptures that were used in this Talk:

Hebrews 13:9: Do not be carried away with various and strange teachings ...

1st John 4:1: Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.

Galatians 1:8: However, even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to you as good news something beyond what we declared to you as good news, let him be accursed.

Proverbs 14:15: Anyone inexperienced puts faith in every word, but the shrewd one considers his steps.

    Colossians 2:8: Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ;

Unfortunately, they were twisted to fit the Watchtower Society's doctrines.

First, the speaker started talking about APOSTATES!

The speaker said that JW's should not even listen to anyone who tries to tell them something that does not agree with what the Watchtower Society teaches.

He said that JW's should not listen to anyone who says that JW's do not need the Watchtower Organization to worship God.

He said that JW's should not listen to anyone who says that JW's can understand the Bible without the Watchtower Society.

He said that JW's should not listen to anyone who says that JW's can receive Holy Spirit without the Watchtower Society.

He then said some good statements:

He said that JW's should not believe anyone who teaches something that contradicts what the Bible says.

He said that JW's must listen to Jesus Christ's voice ONLY!

He then said that every JW should have a good Bible knowledge so they can compare everything against the Bible.

He then said that even if an angel came down from Heaven, or if the Apostles were to say something that contradicts the Bible, that Christians SHOULD NOT believe it!

But, then he said, that even if JW's cannot understand something that the Faithful and Discreet Slave teaches, that you must believe it and go along with it, because the Faithful and Discreet Slave speaks for Jesus Christ!

The speaker also commented a lot on the Media and the Internet:

He said "BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS ABOUT INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM THE INTERNET!"

He said that pedophiles, and other perverts and apostates are on the Internet trying to hurt and mislead people.

He then talked about pornography being on the Internet.

He said "We have seen that the Media has recently been running some stories about the Jehovah's Witnesses".

Then, he said that the Media does not always tell the truth.

He then started talking about the recent New York Times fraud scandal, with the New York Times making up fake news stories.

He said that you MUST NOT believe all the stories you hear. He said that it would be unreasonable to believe that all news stories are false, however.

He then went on to say the following things about the News Media:

    "The Media uses half-truths".

    "The Media withholds certain facts".

"The Media is lying in the power of the Wicked One".

"Be very careful about what you believe from the Media".
    ______________________________________________

Then, the next Talk was interesting also:

The speaker kept saying over and over and over that the Jehovah's Witnesses are the TRUE RELIGION BECAUSE every JW will give out the same answers when people ask questions, and there are no different beliefs about the Bible.

They said that some people have become JW's because of the unity and harmony of the answers that were given by different JW's, and that there are NO CONTRADICTIONS in the Jehovah's Witnesses teachings, like Babylon the Great has.

Well, that speaker is obviously overlooking some major flip-flops and contradictions:

    Sodom & Gomorroh
    Rape/Screaming Policy
    Blood Transfusion Confusion
    And more flip-flops.

Then, they released the "Learn from the Great Teacher" Book.

I highly recommend that everyone read Chapter 32 of that Book!

They went on to talk about how golden calves were worshiped at BETHEL!

He said that pedophiles, and other perverts and apostates are on the Internet

Classic of a fallacious argument "Ad hominem" (Against the person) The fact that perverts and pornographers use the net does not discount the useful info that you can gain . It is easy to dismiss a medium by drawing attention to its worst excesses.

I have found this though, among dubs not surprisingly, when I recounted a news item that I had read on the net and met with skepticism . They are unable to appreciate the difference between a BBC News site and say a chat room personal experience
