Who Is Held Accountable?

I am having a difficult time understanding something.

The bible says that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous. The JWs apply this teaching as though the resurrection is an earthly one. Regardless of it being in heaven or on earth, here's my issue:

According to the bible, once one dies then their sins are forgiven. They will supposedly have a clean slate. But, let's say that there will be a Great War of God called Armageddon next week. According to the JW version of the bible, those living lives of wrongdoing will be splattered by God. This is the problem I have with this so-called logic:

No matter how many sinful acts one commits in his/her lifetime, as long as they die BEFORE armageddon, they're a lock for a 2nd chance at life. But, if you're alive WHEN the Big A arrives, you're screwed! How is that fair? How is that justice? The guy who committed more gross sins than me who is already dead is shown mercy by God while I become bird food only for the simple fact that I'm alive when Armageddon arrives.

I have no choice but to cancel Armageddon.

    Funchback,

No matter how many sinful acts one commits in his/her lifetime, as long as they die BEFORE armageddon, they're a lock for a 2nd chance at life. But, if you're alive WHEN the Big A arrives, you're screwed! How is that fair?

First of all you are asking questions from a Witnesses point of view.

The Bible says when one dies they are freed of sin. Could this mean that one can't sin anymore because their dead....they are "free of sin" ? The "unrightous that are ressurected are without Christ and are ressurected to JUDGEMENT. If death ended Sin then why would they be judged?

Your question about dying at armageddon or dying before it never made sense to me either when I was a dub. Their reasoning on this was people who died at armageddon would have a chance to choose by the time the battle struck,,,,whereas those who died BEFORE may not get the chance to choose the truth.....hence....they would be ressurected to CHOOSE the truth or not. If they didn't....they would die during the 10000 year reign.

As far as the Bible goes.....those who accept Christ and truly love him are freed of sin. There is no obediance trial period before armageddon or after.

Also....the fact that these matters you do not understand is not understood by others who study them......makes one wonder if what was written are really God's words and not men's idea's.

I really can't believe that I actually fell for all of that rubbish. I get annoyed at myself sometimes for not asking enough questions before I commited myself. And like you just mentioned about the armageddon issue, quite often it's the simple questions that are so hard for them to answer.

Funchback you are right on the money with this observation!,

Love the name by the way. This is just one of many Watch Towerisms that make no logical sense. If mass murdrers die the day before the big "A" they get a second chance but my Grandma, who never harmed anyone, is dead forever because she just happened to live 24 more hours as a non JW? This is crazy! I can't believe I used to buy this nonsense. What kind of super being capable of creating an entire Universe would come up with such an unfair justice system based soley on random chance? It makes about as much sense as believing that Ol'Jehoover favors the Christian West while ignoring the majority of the Earth's population in Asian, Hindu, and Muslim countries since so few of the later are inclined to become JWs due to their cultures which they didn't choose but arrived in randomly by accident of geographic birth place. The whole Watch Tower justice system crumbles under the application of a little fairness and logic and makes even the worse human devised court systems look fair by comparison. What about the retarded and mentally ill? Children and babies? The Watch Tower says they all must die too unless their caretakers have "The Truth". The whole Watch Tower belief system is crazy and these points are just the tip of the ice berg. I'm glad I woke up because I couldn't stomach this insanity and got out when I did. Even if the Watch Tower is right I would rather die than serve the wacko killer God they promote and His chaotic judgements.

    Hi, gumby.

My whole point was from the JW perspective. In other words, that's what I was trying to bring out. It just gives more material for people to store into their "Why the JWs are Loopy" files.

Wages of sing pays is death. WT society says that this means when you die all of your sins are wiped clean. This is not what the scripture means. Read the whole chapter. It is saying if you continue in your sin you will die because of your course of life. The only way you gain forgiveness of sins or a clean slate is to accept Jesus in your life. If the societies interp were correct we should all hope to die now!

Spot on , Funchback this teaching makes no sense at all . It was always something I struggled to understand but one day the penney dropped . It makes no sense because it is not true. That is the simple truth and I have never doubted it from that day forward.

I still hear the comments from family members, when someone they like dies, eg Princess Diana, John Lennon etc

"At least now they in line for a ressurrection. They might have never got the truth otherwise"

    Daft! wishful thinking.

Screwy and confused teachings that leave a window open for change and spinning, however it suits them in order to continue with subugation and fear of leaving[and living!], questioning or talking against the Borg. The No-Blood issue is the perfect example. Dates of impending Armageddon another...the UN thing,.and on and on..blah-blah-blah.[whew] rocky220[from the glad to be out class!]

    bay64me...

I think that many of us former JWs thought about questions like this one but we didn't want to appear as though we were doubters. Personally, I used to bury questions and doubts like this deep into my mind's archive. Thankfully, I retained these thoughts.
