I KNOW this is here somewhere but can't find it in 4000 pages of threads (no duh really) Anyway my wife has made me promise not to go Sunday... She says she listened to me and as a result stopped being a witness and broke her parents heart so I owe her... Anyway so I'm not going to go!

What I want is a scan or quote from the elders manual (shoveling the shit to the flock or whatever it's called) that says that someone who's not claiming to be a witness and doesn't recognize the elders authority should be left alone... I know it won't matter but I would really like to at least send SOMETHING! I need it like right NOW though! I'm going to give it to my mom to take to Txx (elder) but she's going to be here at 3:30!!!!! Ahhhhh HELP PLEASE!

I don't believe any such quote exists in the "Pay Attention" book or elsewhere. If you want to get away discreetly, claim

depression is your problem and don't return their calls.

    Mark,

I think that JW policy has been changed over the years....you know ...new light an all that...

    Metatron,

depression is your problem and don't return their calls.

That's exactly what we told them...that I was really depressed and wanted to be left alone....problem was... I really couldn’t hide my joy at being free!! LOL

As long as you were baptized, they will think they have authority over you. It is an unwritten rule that if you have been inactive for some time and no one in the community is aware that you are/were a JW, that they can let a DFing offense slide until you try to get back into the organization. But recent events with Seeker4 shows that is not likely to be the policy at this time.

mkr, it only says they can choose to view it that way. I'll find the quote for you.

    Respectfully,

Baptized persons who have not associated for some time.

If you learn of serious wrongdoing on the part of such a
person, the matter should be investigated if it poses a
threat to the congregation's cleanness and welfare or caus-
    es a public scandal.

    Consider the following:

Does he still profess to be a Witness?

Is he generally recognized as such in the congrega-
    tion and/or t e community?

Does the person have a measure of contact or
association with the congregation so that a leaven-
    ing, or corrupting, influence exists?

How did the matter become known to the elders?

Is the person willing to meet with a committee,
thus admitting accountability to the Christian con-
    gregation?

Depending upon length of inactivity and other factors
suggested above, elders may determine to hold the
    matter in abeyance.

In such a case, a record of the person's questionable
conduct should be made for the congregation file so
that everything noted might be clarified when the
person shows interest in becoming active again.

If the sinful conduct is known only to believing family
members and no congregation action is taken because
of the factors outlined above, believing relatives will
likely determine to curtail family association severely,
viewing the relative as bad association. ( I Cor. 15:33)

If the individual still professes to be a Witness and is
willing to meet with the judicial committee, the matter
should be handled in the normal way. However, when
factors such as possible legal action exist, it is best to
    consult the Society before proceeding. (w87 9/1 p. 14)

    Mkr,

There was a time, I think in the 1980's, when the printed policy was to leave them alone if they hadn't attended meetings for 2 or 3 years and did not claim in the community to be a JW. I looked for the quote but could not find it quickly.

However, they do what they want know. If you make noise, or they just do not like you, it doesn't matter how long you have been away. They will even make the announcement without contacting you if they feel you have been gone long enough. They did this to my daughter after being away for about 3 years and they did it to Barbara Anderson after being away much longer.

They seem to be in a desperate "cover thy butt" mode as far as dealing with opposers. But I hope someone finds the quote just for your mother's sake.

    Steve
