Methods used to defend the WTBTS - how sound are they?

Have you ever noticed that the watchtower apologists always use the same argaments to defend the organization - and that these arguments are the same ones they use in reverse to attack 'false' religion?

    • That the organization is made up of imperfect men - therefore it is bound to make errors in both doctrine and action at times. But that argument is not accepted for say the Catholic faith or the Lutherans when they attempt to refute the accusation that they have not the 'truth'
    • That we will wait on Jehovah to clear up that issue or this - But the other religions are not allowed that defense.
    • That we changed doctrine due to new light on the matter - but the other religions are following 'teachings of demons'

    Thoughts - comments?

These are great questions and I would not have had an answer for them when I was a JW. Oh wait, I guess the WT reasoning could be is that it takes faith to believe in the WT Org and faith is not a possesion of all peoples--right? We did have an answer to refute almost any logical argument--even if was an illogical answer.

You can always ask "Well don't your articles claim that the JW's are 'Jehovah's Perfect organization?' How can a perfect organization be comprised of imperfect men?

"Assuming you are right and Jehovah will 'clear up this issue' for you, why won't he also clear things up for a catholic or lutherian? What is it about the Governing body that gives them a direct and exclusive pipeline to God?"

"what causes this new light? how do you know when it is seen?

...yes, and the Watchtower Society and its supporters are also guilty of " accumulating teachers to have their ears tickled"

Ignorance is only despicable when it is self imposed.

I like the quote "all in due time" that Jehovah is working and it isn't the "due" time yet.

It's the TRUTH! If you question any aspect of the TRUTH, you are taking sides against Jehovah and his organization!!!!

You can't compare the Society to mere mortals, even though we know they are just men, they have shrowded in all sorts of mystique and the JW's all follow their lead.

It makes me think of the High Priest back in Isrealite times that was the only person worthy enough to go into the "inner room" or sacred chamber and that no one else could ever walk in there because it was so holy. Yes, human, but somehow linked to God.

    1) That the organization is made up of imperfect men - therefore it is bound to make errors in both doctrine and action at times. But that argument is not accepted for say the Catholic faith or the Lutherans when they attempt to refute the accusation that they have not the 'truth'

    Watchtower, Jan. 1, 1942, p. 5,

Those who are convinced that The Watchtower is publishing the opinion or expression of a man should not waste time looking at it at all, because a man's opinion proves nothing.

Some, seeking to find justification for their careless conduct, point to the mistakes that faithful men of old made, such as Noah, David and others. But these overlook the fact there is nothing to indicate that those servants of God repeatedly erred in these respects.----

And these deflections were written down so that those coming after them who erred in like manner might take comfort and hope in God’s mercy, but not to excuse sinning or to justify laxity.—Rom. 15:4.

    24. It does not compete with nor is it like any other religious magazine. It does not provide some man’s opinion, because what is said is based on a Greater One’s thought.

    *** w52 4/15 p. 253 Aids for Understanding Prophecy ***

Jehovah’s witnesses themselves are not nor can they be interpreters of prophecies. But as fast as the "superior authorities" Jehovah and Christ Jesus reveal the interpretations through their provided channel that fast do God’s people publish them the world over to strengthen the faith of all lovers of righteousness.

It is a serious matter to represent God and Christ in one way, then find that our understanding of the major teachings and fundamental doctrines of the Scriptures was in error, and then after that, to go back to the very doctrines that, by years of study, we had thoroughly determined to be in error. Christians cannot be vacillating—‘wishy-washy’—about such fundamental teachings. What confidence can one put in the sincerity or judgment of such persons?

    2) That we will wait on Jehovah to clear up that issue or this - But the other religions are not allowed that defense.

There are some who make spectacular predictions of the world’s end to grab attention and a following, but others are sincerely convinced that their proclamations are true. They are voicing expectations based on their own interpretation of some scripture text or physical event.

    How

    to Choose the Right Religion

What will guide us in choosing the right religion? The Encyclopædia Universalis is correct when it highlights the importance of truth. A religion that teaches lies cannot be true. The greatest prophet that ever walked on earth stated: "God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth."—John 4:24.

    *** w89 12/15 6-7 Peace-The Reality ***
They have a modern Governing Body of older Christian men from various parts of the earth who give needed oversight to the worldwide activities of God’s people. These men, like the apostles and older men in Jerusalem in the first century, are anointed members of the faithful and discreet slave class designated by Jesus to care for all of his Kingdom interests here upon earth. History has proved that they can be trusted to follow the direction of the holy spirit and that they do not rely on human wisdom in teaching the flock of God the ways of genuine peace.—Matthew 24:45-47; 1 Peter 5:1-4.

    *** g93 3/22 4 Why So Many False Alarms? ***
Jehovah’s Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus’ second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Because of this, some have called them false prophets. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions ‘in the name of Jehovah.’ Never did they say, ‘These are the words of Jehovah.
